MWC 2024 will be taking place a week from now at Barcelona in Spain.

The event is headlined by tech companies not only unveiling new smartphones but also concept phones and innovations they’re working on.

The themes that will take centre-stage at MWC 2024 Barcelona are Humanising AI, Digital DNA, Manufacturing DX, Game Changers, Connecting Everything and 5G and Beyond. It is under these themes that companies showcase their tech products and that includes new smartphones.

Here are the new devices that are expected to launch at MWC 2024

Xiaomi 14 Series

Xiaomi will be unveiling its flagship 14 series for the global market which also includes the Ultra version. The company already launched the base and the Pro version in China late last year.

The Ultra will have a four rear camera setup powered by Leica led by four 50MP cameras – the 50MP main camera with a 1-inch sensor, a 50MP ultrawide and two 50MP telephoto – one with 3.2X optical zoom and the other with 5X zoom. There’s a 32MP selfie camera. All the cameras have OIS except the front-facing camera and the ultrawide.

It will have Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and Android 14-based HyperOS. The screen will be a 6.73-inch AMOLED screen with QHD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate(LTPO) and 3000 nits brightness protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Xiaomi 14 Ultra will have a 5300mAh battery and support 90W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. It will also sport IP68 ingress protection and a titanium frame.

Xiaomi 14 on the other hand has a 6.36-inch OLED screen with QHD resolution, 120Hz refresh rate(LTPO) and 3000 nits brightness.

It comes powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with 8/12/16GB RAM and 256/512/1TB storage. It has Android 14-based HyperOS.

It has Leica lenses for the rear cameras made of a 50MP primary with OIS, a 50MP ultrawide and a 50MP telephoto with OIS and 3.2X optical zoom. It also has a 32MP selfie camera.

It comes with a 4880mAh battery with 1200W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

TECNO Phantom V2 Fold

TECNO is taking MWC to unveil its second book-style foldable as it did with its first-gen Phantom V Fold which was announced at the same event last year. In our review, we said was a great first-gen foldable which made them venture into the clamshell-style foldable with the Phantom V Flip.

TECNO is following the same script in terms of features with the V2 Fold. It will have the same MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ processor paired with 12GB RAM. It will boot up Android 14 and HiOS 14 as well.

The Phantom V2 Fold will have a triple main camera setup made of a 50MP main, 50MP telephoto with 2X optical zoom(20x Digital Zoom) and 13MP ultrawide.

It will come with a 6.42″ LTPO AMOLED screen with 1080p resolution and a 6.42″ LTPO AMOLED screen. We expect both screens to sport 1100 nits in terms of peak brightness and 120Hz refresh rate.

The V2 Fold is powered by a 5000mAh battery and supports for 45W wired charging which can juice up the V Fold to full in 55 minutes.

Honor Magic V2 RSR Porsche Design

Honor will be unveiling the Honor Magic V2 RSR(RennSport Rennwagen – racing sports racing car) for the global market at this year’s MWC. The foldable is made with Honor’s partnership with Porsche specifically the race car version of the 911. The RSR version is a sportier version of the 6-month-old Magic V2 now branded with Porsche design.

In the foldables arena, the V2 is still the lightest and thinnest coming in at 231g compared to the 253g of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 and 239g of the OPPO Find N3.

Honor went in generous with their package in terms of accessories. It not only includes a stylus(Honor Magic Pen) but a premium-looking vegan leather protective case with an extension for the hinge when folded, two charging adapters(UK and Europe-style – both 66W), two USB-C cables and a luxurious case to house the stylus.

In terms of features, the V2 RSR comes with a glass front and back, magnesium alloy frame and titanium alloy folding mechanism.

The Magic6 series uses the same 16GB RAM and 1TB storage as the Magic V2 RSR.

For cameras, the Phone 2(a) has a dual camera setup as the flagship Phone 2 – a 50MP primary(sadly has no OIS support) and a 50MP ultrawide. The front-facing camera is a 16MP camera instead of the 32MP of the bigger sibling.

The RGB lights are three LED light strips next to the camera island that lights up when you get a notification inspired by the Gyph interface of the Nothing Phone(1) and Phone(2).

The Pova 6 series comes with a Turbo Mecha-inspired design and in various colours including Hurricane Blue, Mecha Black and Amber Gold. The phone has a 6.78 inch FHD+ screen rocking 120Hz refresh rate with Helio G99 processor and up to 16GB RAM and 256GB storage.
