OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 11

In the past few years, OnePlus has gotten back on track by making killer flagships and midrange smartphones.

OnePlus devices are not not available locally at least officially but that doesn’t mean they are not accessible if you’re looking for something different with a better price-to-performance ratio.

Our preferred retailer in the country is PhonePlace Kenya who already sell some of the best OnePlus smartphones but more on that below.

Here are the OnePlus smartphones to buy in Kenya right now if you’re looking to upgrade.

OnePlus 12 – Ksh 135,000

OnePlus 12 is the top dog in the company’s flagship lineup for this year and a stellar high-end smartphone. It was announced last year and went global early last month.

OnePlus 12 features a glass frontend back design protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, slim bezels and an aluminium frame.

It comes with IP65 ingress protection. The stereo speakers it comes with are really good even beating the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

At the front is a 6.82-inch AMOLED(LTPO) QHD+ screen with 120Hz refresh rate, 4500 nits brightness and 2K resolution(3,168 x 1,440 pixels). It supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.

It also comes with AquaTouch technology which lets you use the phone even when there’s moisture from rain or sweaty hands.

It comes powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with 12/16GB and 256/512GB storage running Android 14 and OxygenOS 14. OnePlus has promised up to four major Android OS upgrades and five years of security patches.

For cameras, it has a 50MP main with OIS, a 64MP periscope telephoto with OIS and 3X optical zoom and a 48MP ultrawide. The cameras feature Hasselblad Color Calibration and can shoot up to 8K video.

It also has a 32MP selfie camera that can shoot 4K video.

Powering the phone is a 5400mAh battery with 100W wired charging, 50W wireless and 10W reverse wireless. This means that a 12-minute charge will get you to 100% when you enable the Smart rapid charging feature in the battery settings.

55 minutes of charging the phone wirelessly will get you a full charge.

OnePlus 12 comes in Silver, Silky Black and Flowly Emerald colours.

OnePlus 11 – Ksh 106,599

While the OnePlus 12R is the newest addition in the OnePlus 12 series, I believe the OnePlus 11 is still a better buy and even more affordable with respect to the features it brings.

The OnePlus 12R is the smaller and less expensive sibling of the flagship OnePlus 12. It shares most features with it but there are some concessions made to make it more cheaper and that’s why I recommend getting the OnePlus 11.

OnePlus 11 was the phone that turned OnePlus’s misfortunes with its past devices.

It’s lighter at 205g compared to the OnePlus 12 at 220g and features a glass back and front design with Gorilla Glass Victus and aluminium frame. It also has IP64 rating.

OnePlus 11

For the screen, we have a slightly smaller 6.7-inch AMOLED(LTPO) QHD+ panel with 120Hz refresh rate and 1300 nits brightness.

It ships with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset with 16GB RAM and 256GB storage running Android 13 and OxygenOS 13 upgradeable to Android 14 and OxygenOS 14.

OnePlus has promised up to four major Android OS upgrades and five years of security patches.

For photography, it has a 50MP main with OIS, a 64MP periscope telephoto with ois and 3X optical zoom and a 48MP ultrawide. The cameras feature Hasselblad Color Calibration and can shoot up to 8K video.

It also has a 16MP selfie camera that can shoot 1080p video.

Powering the phone is a 5000mAh battery with 100W wired charging. This means that a 22-minute charge will get you to 100% when you enable the Smart rapid charging feature in the battery settings.

It comes in Jupiter Rock, Titan Black and Eternal Green.

OnePlus Nord CE3 – Ksh 56,500

OnePlus Nord CE3 is the middle child between the Nord CE Lite and Nord 3 but it shares most features with the latter.

Nord CE3 has a plastic body, matte plastic frame, and a glass front sporting the 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support.

It ships with a Snapdragon 782G chipset with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage powered by Android 13 and OxygenOS 13.1 upgradeable to Android 14 and OxygenOS 14. It will get Android OS updates for three years.

OnePlus Nord CE3

For optics, it has a 50MP main with OIS, 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro. It also has a 16MP selfie camera. The primary cameras can shoot up to 4K while the selfie camera can shoot 1080p video.

The Nord CE3 has a 5000mAh battery and 80W wired charging and takes 31 minutes to fully charge it.

Other features include an under-display fingerprint reader and stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos.

OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G – Ksh 34,000

The Nord CE 2 Lite 5G is an entry-level device from OnePlus and like the Nord CE3, it has a glass front and plastic frame and back.

It has a 6.59-inch LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate.

It comes with Snapdragon 695 5G chipset, 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. It came with Android 12 and OxygenOS 12.1 and it recently got updated to Android 14 and OxygenOS 14 which is the phone’s last upgrade.

OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite

It comes with a 64MP main camera and two 2MP cameras and a 16MP selfie camera. Both can shoot 1080p video.

The Nord CE 2 Lite has a 5000mAh battery and 33W wired charging. It takes 75 minutes to charge from empty to full.

Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint reader, virtual RAM support,

OnePlus Nord 2 5G – KSH 42,500

While it is a bit older in this list, the Nord 2 5G is still a value buy.

Nord 2 5G has a glass design – both front and back and a plastic frame. It also has Gorilla Glass 5 protection for both screen and back.

It has a 90Hz AMOLED screen with HDR10+ support.

OnePlus Nord 2 5G

It came with Android 11 and got Android 13 last year. Sadly, it will not get Android 14.

Nord 2 has a MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.

For cameras, it has a 50MP main camera with OIS, 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP depth. It has a 32MP selfie camera. The main cameras can shoot 4K video while the camera can shoot 1080p video.

Nord 2 has a 4500mAh battery and 65W wired charging.
