Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers’ Conference event (WWDC 24) is set to kick off today June 10th at 8 pm EAT. Unsurprisingly, it looks like AI will be the main theme of the event as we expect new software launches including iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS 15, watchOS 11, tvOS 18 and visionOS 2.
Various reports have claimed that Apple plans to redefine the AI acronym to stand for “Apple Intelligence” instead of “Artificial Intelligence”. So, don’t mind the pun if we get to hear it.
According to many industry insiders, we should expect to see new AI tools coming to the iPhone, iPad and Mac, likely powered by OpenAI. This is mostly from the rumoured partnership between the two firms that was set to help Apple navigate through this world of AI.
As reported, Apple’s first few steps into the wave of AI will involve on-device processing and depend heavily on the cloud to minimise privacy issues. Most of the features are expected to be released as opt-in beta programs and will probably require an iPhone 15 Pro or newer or an M1-powered device or newer.
Speaking of AI, many people will obviously want to see what upgrades Siri gets following this new partnership with OpenAI. It’s rumoured that the assistant will get a lot smarter and have precise control over app features and actions.
The Photos app is also expected to have enhanced editing features including the removal of objects and people. AI-created emojis based on text on the fly will probably be a thing. And Xcode is likely to get some AI-powered code autocompletion features.
There aren’t any new hardware announcements expected at WWDC 24 but we might expect a few teasers.
