The eCitizen platform is presently experiencing disruption to its paybill service, resulting in substantial inconveniences to the accessibility of government services. The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), was the first government agency to acknowledge this with a notice stating, “We are currently experiencing technical difficulties with eCitizen Payment Services (222222). “
The tax authority further advised Kenyans to use bank payment options or PDQ machines.
Since last year, numerous government services have been onboarded onto the platform and payments are made through a single mobile money PayBill. Today’s issue affected numerous other services besides KRA.
Tourists seeking entry into the Nairobi National Park were stranded for hours at the main gate as the eCitizen platform failed. Reports indicate the technical team is actively working to resolve the matter.

Recently, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi claimed the government had onboarded 22,000 services onto the e-Citizen platform.
“This has seen the government collect billions of shillings every month and cut down on leakages of billions of monies that would end up in people’s hands corruptly,” said Mudavadi.
However, as many people have found out today, it left many government services susceptible to the vagaries of a single point of failure.
