The Oppo Find N5, unveiled on February 20, marks a huge advancement in foldable smartphone technology, setting new benchmarks for design, performance, and user experience.
Distinguished as the world’s thinnest foldable phone, the Find N5 measures a mere 4.21mm when unfolded and 8.93mm when folded. This ultra-slim profile is achieved through the innovative Titanium Flexion Hinge, which is 26% smaller than its predecessor’s hinge in the Find N3, yet offers enhanced rigidity.
The device’s lightweight nature, at 229 grams, is attributed to the use of a 3D-printed titanium wing panel and carbon fiber materials. The frame is constructed from 7000 series aluminum, ensuring durability.
Above all, the Find N5 is the first foldable to feature IPX6, IPX8, and IPX9 water resistance ratings, providing protection against pressurized water jets and submersion.
Display
The Find N5 boasts an 8.12-inch LTPO OLED main screen with a Full HD+ resolution and a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate, delivering a peak brightness of 2,100 nits. The aspect ratio stands at 9.9:9, offering a balanced viewing experience.
The external display is a 6.62-inch LTPO OLED panel, also with Full HD+ resolution and a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate, but with a higher peak brightness of 2,450 nits and a 20.7:9 aspect ratio. Both screens support the Oppo Pen stylus, catering to users seeking enhanced productivity and creativity.
Performance
Under the hood, the Find N5 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, featuring a binned version with one less performance core to optimize power consumption and thermal management. This is complemented by 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage, ensuring smooth multitasking and ample space for data storage.
The device runs on ColorOS 15, based on Android 15, with Oppo committing to four years of Android updates and six years of security patches, ensuring longevity and up-to-date features for users.
Camera System
In collaboration with Hasselblad, Oppo has equipped the Find N5 with a versatile triple-camera setup. The primary sensor is a 50MP unit with a LYT-700 sensor, offering a 21mm equivalent focal length and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for sharp and stable images.
Accompanying this is a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with a 70mm equivalent focal length, providing 3x optical zoom capabilities. The third camera is an 8MP ultrawide lens with a 15mm equivalent focal length and autofocus, allowing for expansive and detailed wide-angle shots.
Battery and Charging
The Find N5 houses a 5,600mAh silicon-carbon battery, delivering extended usage on a single charge. Charging options are versatile, with 80W SuperVOOC wired charging and 50W AirVOOC wireless charging support, enabling rapid power replenishment. This ensures that users can quickly return to full power, minimizing downtime.
Internationally, the OPPO Find N5 is priced on the premium side at €1,799 (about KES 243,000). As it stands, it is not clear when the device will make it to Kenyan stores officially, but it’s a matter of time before it arrives.
