OPPO is set to unveil the Find N5, a new foldable smartphone that sets a new benchmark for thinness and design in the industry. With a focus on portability, the Find N5 aims to redefine user expectations for foldable devices by combining a sleek form factor with high-performance features.
At just 10.1mm thick when folded and an astonishing 4mm when unfolded, the Find N5 easily surpasses competitors like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5, which measures 13.4mm folded. In comparison, the thinnest foldable phone in the market is the Honor Magic V3, which is only 4.35 millimeters when unfolded and 9.2 millimeters when folded.
A recent showcase video featuring OPPO chief product officer, Pete Lau, was posted on the Chinese social platform Weibo, emphasizing this slim profile by comparing the device’s thickness to everyday objects like coins and bank cards.
For traditional smartphones, thinner designs aren’t always ideal, as they can be more prone to damage and sometimes lack the comfort of a slightly heftier device. However, for foldable phones, thinner is undeniably advantageous. Since most foldables are significantly bulkier and heavier than standard smartphones, a device this slim strikes an excellent balance—delivering the benefits of a larger screen while maintaining ease of portability.
In addition to its ultra-slim form factor, the Find N5 is rumored to pack flagship specifications.
The device is reported to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, coupled with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, ensuring top-tier performance for multitasking, gaming, and productivity. Battery life and charging are also expected to receive a bump. Rumors also say the Find N5 will feature a 5,900mAh battery.
While we wait for the global launch, it is not clear if we will be able to see the foldable released in the Kenyan market. One can only hope, though.
The reports come at a time when it seems like thin smartphones are expected to be an industry trend in 2025, with Apple expected to add an ultra-slim ‘iPhone Air’ model to its lineup.
