Xiaomi Kenya has announced the launch of the Redmi A5, a new addition to its budget smartphone line-up, now available in Kenya starting at KES 9,499. The device targets users looking for a balance between affordability and essential smartphone features.
Display & Performance
The Redmi A5 features a 6.88-inch HD+ display (1640×720 resolution, 260 ppi) with a 1500:1 contrast ratio and adaptive refresh rate of up to 120Hz.
It supports TÜV Rheinland-certified eye comfort features, including Low Blue Light (Software Solution), Flicker Free, and Circadian Friendly modes, aimed at improving screen usability over extended periods.
Performance is powered by the UNISOC T7250 processor, an octa-core chipset built on a 12nm process, with speeds up to 1.8GHz. The device runs Android 15 (Go Edition), which is optimised for efficient performance on entry-level hardware.
It is available in two configurations: 3GB RAM with 64GB storage and 4GB RAM with 128GB storage, with support for RAM expansion and ROM-based storage flexibility.
Battery Life
Battery life is a notable focus, with the Redmi A5 equipped with a 5200mAh battery that supports 15W fast charging via USB Type-C (power adapter availability may vary by region).
Cameras
On the camera front, the Redmi A5 includes a dual rear setup featuring a 32MP main sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, accompanied by an auxiliary lens. Camera features include HDR, Ultra HD mode, Night mode, and 1080p video recording at 30fps.
The front-facing 8MP camera offers additional shooting modes such as Fill-light Portrait and Time-lapse.
Additional features include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, AI face unlock, dual SIM 4G/LTE support, Bluetooth 5.2, FM radio, dual-band Wi-Fi, and multi-system navigation support. The device weighs 193g and comes in Ocean Blue, Lake Green, Sandy Gold, and Midnight Black.
