If you run a PCF (Parody, Commentary & Fan) account on X, you are now required to include specific keywords at the beginning of your name and in your bio. Using the same profile image as the original account is also not allowed. Non-compliance will result in account suspension.
Via the official Safety handle on X, the Elon Musk platform posted, “PCF accounts must continue using PCF-compliant keywords in profile bios and at the beginning of account names, as well as avoiding the use of identical avatars to those of the entities they depict.”
The platform is trying to curb fake personas and impersonations that have grown in numbers. According to their Authenticity policy, X says, “You may not use manufactured identities to engage in disruptive or deceptive behaviour. This may include using stock, stolen, or AI-generated profile photos; copied or stolen profile bios; and/or misleading profile information for the purpose of deceiving others.”
Earlier in April, X had indicated it was stepping up its efforts to curb impersonations and parody accounts on the platform. The proposed changes were aimed at mitigating the risks of user confusion and account impersonation by providing greater transparency regarding the non-affiliated nature of Parody, Commentary, and Fan (PCF) accounts.
These changes are now in place, and X promises to strictly enforce them. Everyone who operates a PCF account is required to include a PCF label to clearly indicate they are not affiliated with the subject and to avoid misleading users.
To add the PCF label, go to Settings and Privacy, then Your Account, followed by Account Information, and select the Parody, Commentary, and Fan Account option.
X says it allows parody accounts only if the purpose is to discuss, satirize, or share information. It encourages users to report parody accounts that they deem are misleading others.
