Instagram is one of the best social networks for displaying content that is visual in nature and that is why it rewards creativity organically. We have seen accounts that have used graphic design to summarize conferences and others that shows locations with melancholic names
This case however stars the elusive barbie doll which was been the toy of choice for many young girls all over the world. However, it is not common to hear of a barbie doll which has been adorned with a hijab and this is why Haneefa Adam decided to create an Instagram account that features a barbie.
She told CNN about her decision to open the account:
“I thought I had not seen Barbie dressed in a hijab before so I decided to open an Instagram account and dressed Barbie in the clothes I made. I thought it was really important for a doll to be dressed like how I would be”
Haneefa Adam also explained how she dresses the barbie doll “It has roots in my religion and cultural identify I wanted to use the Instagram page to create an identity for her similar to Barbie.”
The account has proved to be rather popular where it has garnered over 23 thousand followers and has posed 45 posts at the time of writing. Haneefa does not want to stop there. She also want to have dolls that show various races so as to show some variety.
