OnePlus is quite an eccentric company. The company burst into the highly competitive smartphone industry with their pioneer phone, the OnePlus One. The phone got so many positive reviews thanks to its flagship level specifications while having a pricepoint that is below what similarly spec’d smartphones had.
Fastfowarding to now, their latest phone is the OnePlus 3T, which is an iterative update to their excellent OnePlus 3. The phone was praised for having maintained the company’s policy of offering flagship worthy specs and performance at a pricepoint lower than expected.
The OnePlus 3T was released last year on November, which is 8 months ago or forever in the smartphone industry. We know that its successor would skip the 4 moniker (the number 4 is considered unlucky in Asia) and it would be branded as OnePlus 5.
We also saw reports that the phone would be released in the summer, which is between June and August. Well, now we have a date as reported by the Verge.
According to the publication, the OnePlus 5 will be unveiled on June 20th, which is only two weeks from now. The announcement will be done at 12PM ET (7pm East African Time) and it will be streamed online on their website. Interesting enough, there will be events in select cities worldwide where in New York specifically, the CEO, Carl PEi and the famous tech YouTuber, Marques Brownlee will be in attendance.
The OnePlus 5 has been confirmed to be running the latest Qualcomm’s top dog, Snapdragon 835, and is rumoured to have features like a dual-camera setup. They are also working with DxO to optimize their cameras so we expect something substantial from them during the launch.
