Safaricom today has announced that their CEO, Bob Collymore has started medical leave to receive “specialized treatment” for a number of months.
To fill the void within the time, the company has also said that the company’s current Chief Financial Officer, Mr Sateesh Kamath will take a “primary role.”
Mr Sateesh will be supported by the current Director of Strategy and Innovation, Mr Joseph Ogutu, who will be responsible for the company’s day to day operations until Mr. Collymore’s return from medical leave. Mr Ogutu is the longest serving Executive Committee member in Safaricom and his career in the telecommunications industry spans 30 years.
“On behalf of the board, management and the entire Safaricom community, I wish Bob quick recovery and look forward to him resuming his duties as soon as doctors allow him to do so,” Nicholas Ng’ang’a, Chairman, Safaricom was quoted as saying.
The company did not specify what ails Mr Collymore and the indefinite nature of the timeline would worry investors.
