We are squarely into iPhone 12 (or whatever it will be called) hype season and this means we get to hear wild things about the upcoming iPhone.
According to the famous Apple analyst, Ming-Chi-Kuo, Apple is set to slim its packaging for its upcoming iPhones.
Apparently, Apple wants to keep selling the iPhone 12 at a similar price to the iPhone 11 and removing the in-box accessories will offset the cost of the 5G networking components. He had previously said that the wired earbuds won’t be shipped with the iPhone 12 and now he also expects the power adapter to be sold separately too.
In doing this, Apple may want to reduce the size of the iPhone packing considerably, which reduces their freight costs which offsets the extra price that comes with the extra price of 5G components in the iPhones.

Kuo also says the above pictured 20W power adapter is legitimate but will not come with the iPhone 12. In classic Apple fashion, it will be sold separately, just like how they did it with the 18W charger. Kuo also believes Apple will discontinue both the current 5W and 18W chargers in favour of the 20W model.
This move not to include accessories like the charger and earbuds will sure make a section of iOS users mad because they expect that to be included in the purchase.
If you look at it from Apple’s perspective, it makes sense so as to hit that targeted price of the iPhone 11. The iPhone 11 has been selling like hotcakes last year and this year too and I can see why they would want to continue with the success.
Other leaks have shown that Apple will do away with the 64GB base storage which is great and there will be 4 models of the iPhone 12. The cheapest iPhone 12 is rumoured to be $649 and in my opinion, this could be the model that would lack those accessories if what Kuo says turns out to be true. We also expect the iPhone 12 to be delayed due to COVID-19 so the launch may not be held traditionally in September.
