Over the last couple of weeks, we have seen Chinese companies go beyond offering mobile devices only. Companies, especially those under the Transsion umbrella, want to be part of their customers’ daily lives – from pocket computers to home entertainment. And much more.
The same approach will be taken by itel that is also one of Transsion Holdings sub-brand. itel says that it has prepped a brand launch that will be aired with KTN and Facebook on September.
The show will be broadcasted from 1930 to 2000 hrs. A rerun will also be held the following day at 0730 on NTV.
On the whole, itel, which is known for its affordable phones aims to reposition its brand, having served Kenyans for over a decade.
The show will also be marked by other exciting developments.
First, it will launch a new S16 smartphone.
Secondly, itel plans to enter into the home appliance business. This is an interesting space because of its popularity. We expect to see itel TVs and other home entertainment products.
Lastly, the company says it is venturing into the wearable space (with smart bands and smartwatches).
itel S16
The S15 was launched in 2019. It is still an interesting device because of its price (KES 7000), which is a sweet spot for the majority of Kenyans that cannot afford expensive devices.
The S16 is its successor. It is a series (they could be two or more), but there isn’t much we can tell about the line besides what itel has revealed: that its cameras will be good (triple system), and the hardware specs will surpass the offerings of the S15.
Brand re-energization
itel says that it looks forward to making its brand known, especially in the online space.
In the coming days, customers will be able to order itel products (smartphones, TVs and wearable devices) from platforms such as Jumia, Kilimall and Xpark.
“It has been a common practice for smartphone manufacturers to march into the category of IoT devices. With itel onboard, there will be that more and more electronic products which will be enjoyed within a budget-friendly price range,” says a statement from itel.
