As the clock ticks down to the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6), fresh rumors have surfaced about what Rockstar has in store for its next-gen multiplayer experience, and this time, it’s all about scale.
According to a new report by Fravilys, a former editor at French fansite Rockstar Mag, Rockstar Games is already internally testing 64-player servers for GTA 6’s online mode, which is reportedly codenamed GTA6MP.
But that’s not the end goal; Fravilys claims the developers are planning to support up to 96 players per session, making it the largest lobby size ever seen in the GTA franchise.
“The upcoming multiplayer game is currently at an advanced stage… with the ambition of reaching up to 96 simultaneous players per session,” Fravilys wrote in a Medium post, where the insider first shared the information.
Currently, GTA Online maxes out at 32 players per lobby. If Rockstar truly manages to triple that capacity, the result could be a more dynamic, immersive, and densely populated world, perfect for chaotic heists, large-scale races, or massive free-roam events across Vice City and beyond.
Even more intriguing is the mention of a “seamless experience,” with players able to interact across sessions without disruptive loading screens.
Speculation, Not Confirmation
While the prospect of 96-player lobbies and seamless online worlds is undeniably exciting, it’s important to remember that Rockstar Games has yet to officially confirm any of these details, and we doubt they will given their history.
In the absence of official confirmation or verifiable sources, these reports remain purely speculative.
Rockstar has long been known for its tight-lipped development process, often holding back major reveals until just months, or even weeks, before release.
Given that GTA 6 is still nearly a year away, it’s no surprise that the studio remains silent about the specifics of its online mode.
