Safaricom always schedules maintenance works over the night, and those exercises often take place during the weekend.
Several service upgrades have been done over the year, and we have come to expect them from time to time provided the activities are here to make the network better.
The same thing is happening tonight (Sat 21st Aug 2021).
According to Safaricom, the following services will be unavailable:
- All product purchases
- Balance enquiry
- Okoa Jahazi
- Tunukiwa
- All Bonga Point services
- PostPay Payment
- Home Fibre payment
All other services will be available, including the following:
- Calls
- Data access
- M-PESA
- SMS
The system upgrade will start from 10 PM to 8 AM on Sunday 22nd, 2021.

We will be upgrading our systems to increase our capacity in line with customer growth and support more innovations to meet the different needs of our customers.
To allow for a smooth upgrade, a few services including all product purchases, balance enquiry, Okoa Jahazi, Tunukiwa, all Bonga Point services, Postpaid Payment, and Home Fibre Payment will be unavailable on the night of Saturday 21st August 2021 from 10 PM to 8 AM on Sunday 22nd August 2021.
All other services, including calls, data, M-PESA, and SMS will remain available as usual.
The timing of this maintenance activity has been planned to result in the least possible inconvenience to our customers.
