Former IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba has been appointed the new Director-General for ICT regulator the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA).
Chiloba replaces Mercy Wanjau who has been the DG since 2019 but in an acting capacity.
Ms. Wanjau replaced Francis Wangusi. Francis Wangusi assumed his role as Director-General back in 2012. His time with the Authority has been rigorous thanks to a series of ICT activities and policies that the CA has been tasked to oversee.
Ezra’s entry has been unveiled by the CA Board. His position will be renewable after a four-year tenure.
According to the Board, the appointment followed a competitive recruitment process to fill the position that was left following Wangusi’s retirement.
Here is part of the statement released by the CA:
Mr Chiloba is a policy consultant and Principle Partner with Chil and Kemp consultancy and an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. He is the immediate former Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
Mr. Chiloba holds an undergraduate degree in Law from the University of Nairobi a Master of Arts degree from Central European University in Hungary and a Master of Science degree in Program Management from the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.
A postgraduate diploma in law holder from the Kenya School of Law, Mr. Chiloba also holds a certificate in Blockchain strategy program from Said Business School at the University of Oxford.
He holds further training in Corporate Governance, Projects Management, Collaborative Leadership, and Monitoring and Evaluation.
Mr. Chiloba previously worked as a Team Leader and Deputy Chief of Party with Development Alternative Inc.
He was previously a Projects Analyst in charge of governance, electoral systems, and processes with the United Nations Development Program in Nairobi.
As a new graduate in Law Mr. Chiloba started his career as a Program Officer with the Center for Minority Rights and Development and later joined South Consulting as a Research and Coordination Officer
The Board wishes to thank Mrs Mercy Wanjau, MBS who has been acting in the position of Director-General of the Authority.
Chiloba’s tenure starts immediately.
