Kenya Airways, the country’s premier airline is currently facing disruptions to its booking system. In a circular to the public, the company stated, “We are currently experiencing a system outage that has affected our booking system as a result of a global system outage. Customers are advised to expect slower than usual service as we implement our Business Continuity Plan,”
Across the global, operations of airlines and airports have been under disruption since yesterday. Many of the airlines like Virgin Australia, Ryan Air, United Airlines and American airlines have confirmed they are facing IT system outages due to a CrowdStrike faulty update. The Blue Screen of Death error from the update has taken millions of affected computers and servers offline. The machines are stuck in a recovery boot loop that prevents normal start process.
Kenya Airways has not confirmed if the CrowdStrike issue is the cause of their woes. A problem with Microsoft Azure has also been affecting business operations across the globe. According to Microsoft status report, “A configuration change in a portion of our Azure backend workloads, caused interruption between storage and compute resources which resulted in connectivity failures that affected downstream Microsoft 365 services dependent on these connections.”

As Kenyan Airways works to get its services online, customers are advised to visit booking offices to get assistance.
Kenya Banks Affected
NCBA bank has also notified users that its Card services are currently unavailable. However, the bank’s Mobile and Online Banking platforms are available for customers wishing to access their accounts. Similar to Kenya Airways, NCBA has not offered an explanation on the cause of the outage.
Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) has however attributed their system interruption “to a global outage“. DTB has notified customer’s that some of its services are affected and users may experience delays.
