Bolt, the mobility platform known for ride-hailing and food delivery services, is expanding its digital ecosystem with the launch of Bolt Market, a new grocery delivery service in Nairobi. This strategic move will be looking to capitalize on the growing demand for convenient, on-demand grocery shopping.
Starting today, Bolt Food app users can order groceries between 8:00 am and 11:00 pm, with the option to schedule deliveries up to 24 hours in advance. The service will initially operate within a 10 km radius of its Kilimani store, offering customers access to over 2,000 selected products.
To entice new users, Bolt is offering attractive introductory incentives. Customers can enjoy free delivery for orders up to 3 km and receive discounts of up to 80% during the launch period.
Edgar Kitur, Bolt Food’s General Manager, spoke about the company’s vision behind the new service, saying, “With the launch of Bolt Market grocery delivery in Kenya, we aim to better serve a thriving food and grocery ecosystem that is a foundation for a city people love to live in.”
He further stressed the company’s commitment to quality, stating that store teams handle products with care to ensure customers receive items they would personally choose.
The ordering process is fairly straightforward, much like the food delivery service. Users can download the Bolt Food app, browse the available product selection, and view pricing and estimated delivery times before confirming their order. Payment is processed through bank card details entered directly in the app.
Bolt’s expansion of its digital ecosystem is part of its broader strategy to diversify its service offerings and increase market share across Africa and Europe. By entering the grocery delivery space, the company is establishing itself as a comprehensive urban mobility and convenience platform.
The move also comes at a time of rapid growth in online grocery shopping, driven by increasing smartphone penetration and consumer demand for time-saving solutions. Bolt Market will be hoping to compete with existing grocery delivery services by leveraging its established user base and infrastructure.
