Gemini AI coming to TVs

Google is bringing its powerful Gemini AI to smart TVs running Google TV, making them smarter, more helpful, and easier to use.

Announced at CES 2025, this innovation promises to transform the way we interact with television, making it smarter, more personalized, and seamlessly connected to our digital lives.

What Can Gemini AI Do?

Gemini AI makes your TV feel like it understands you. With natural voice interaction, you can ask your TV for help without even saying “Hey, Google.” For example, you can simply say, “What should I watch tonight?” or “What’s the weather like this weekend?” and get instant answers.

It doesn’t stop there. Gemini AI also remembers what you like to watch, suggesting new shows and movies that match your taste. It’s like having a personal assistant built right into your TV.

Gemini AI is also stepping into the realm of smart home management. TVs equipped with Gemini will feature advanced smart home integration, allowing users to control devices like thermostats and lights and even view video doorbell feeds, all from the comfort of their couch. With far-field microphones built into the TVs, users can issue commands hands-free, making interactions seamless and intuitive.

Google’s move to integrate Gemini AI into third-party TV brands like TCL, Sony, and Hisense underscores its strategy to dominate the smart TV space. This collaboration enables Google to bring its advanced AI capabilities to a broader audience. Competing with rivals like LG and Samsung, which are also incorporating AI assistants such as Microsoft’s Copilot into their televisions.

The first wave of Gemini-integrated TVs is set to launch later this year, starting with TCL models.

Smarter Features for Everyday Life

Gemini AI also introduces some cool new tricks:

  • Personalized Widgets: When you walk near the TV, it can show helpful info like the weather, news, or your schedule.
  • Hands-Free Commands: Far-field microphones mean you can talk to your TV from across the room—no need to pick up a remote.
  • Always-On Mode: Some TVs will always be ready to help, even when they’re not playing anything.

Gemini AI is part of Google’s bigger vision to make technology simpler and more useful in our daily lives. By turning TVs into smart home hubs, Google is making life at home more connected and convenient.
