YouTube is introducing two important updates aimed at helping creators grow their audiences more efficiently: an in-app “Promote” feature and the ability to upload alternate thumbnails for translated or dubbed videos.

These changes are designed to make content promotion and localization easier, especially for creators managing their channels without access to advanced marketing tools.

The new Promote option is being integrated directly into YouTube Studio, removing the need to navigate through Google Ads. Previously, creators had to use the complex Google Ads platform to advertise their videos, which could be intimidating and time-consuming.

With this update, creators can now boost their videos, set basic targeting options such as location and audience interests, and launch a promotion all within YouTube Studio.

This streamlines the process and lowers the barrier for smaller creators or those unfamiliar with digital advertising platforms. While this doesn’t replace the more advanced capabilities of Google Ads, it offers a simpler alternative for quick and targeted promotion efforts.

Alongside this, the Google-owned platform is testing a feature that allows creators to upload alternate thumbnails for videos with translated or dubbed audio tracks.

This is particularly useful when reaching international audiences, as thumbnails often include text or cultural cues that may not translate well across regions.

For example, a thumbnail designed for an English-speaking audience might not resonate with a Spanish-speaking viewer, even if the video itself is dubbed into Spanish.

With alternate thumbnails, creators can tailor their visual presentation better to fit the language and cultural expectations of different regions.

To support this, AI tools like DittoDub are being used to extract text from original thumbnails and translate it into other languages. These translated thumbnails are then reviewed by humans to ensure they retain the original tone and clarity.

This approach ensures that localization efforts maintain both accuracy and emotional impact.
