Apple Intelligence, introduced in late 2024 with iOS 18.1, is a suite of AI-powered features designed to enhance user experience across iPhones, iPads, and Macs. While functionalities like automatic transcription, custom emojis, and proofreading can be beneficial, some users have expressed concerns over features such as inaccurate notification summaries. Notably, with the release of iOS 18.3, Apple Intelligence is enabled by default during the onboarding process for new users and those upgrading to this version.

If you prefer to disable the AI entirely or customize its features to better suit your preferences, follow these steps:

Disabling Apple Intelligence Completely

  1. Access Settings:
    • Open the Settings app on your device.
  2. Navigate to Apple Intelligence & Siri:
    • Scroll down and tap on Apple Intelligence & Siri.
  3. Turn Off Apple Intelligence:
    • Toggle the Apple Intelligence switch to the off position.

This process is consistent across iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices.

Disabling Specific Apple Intelligence Features

If you wish to keep Apple Intelligence active but want to disable certain features, you can do so by adjusting individual settings:

  1. Disable ChatGPT Integration:
    • Navigate to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri.
    • Scroll down to ChatGPT and select it.
    • Toggle Use ChatGPT off.
  2. Prevent Siri Suggestions in Specific Apps:
    • Go to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri.
    • Scroll down to Apps.
    • Select the desired app.
    • Toggle off Learn from this App.
  3. Disable Email Summarization in Mail:
    • Navigate to Settings > Apps.
    • Tap on the Mail app.
    • Scroll down to Message List.
    • Toggle off Summarize Message Preview.

Additionally, AI-summarized notifications now appear in italics for easier identification. To turn off these notifications quickly:

  • Press and hold the notification.
  • Tap Options.
  • Select Turn Off.

This method allows you to manage AI-generated notifications without delving deep into the settings menu.

Re-Enabling Apple Intelligence

If you decide to re-enable Apple Intelligence in the future:

  1. Access Settings:
    • Open the Settings app.
  2. Navigate to Apple Intelligence & Siri:
    • Scroll down and tap on Apple Intelligence & Siri.
  3. Turn On Apple Intelligence:
    • Toggle the Apple Intelligence switch to the on position.

The feature will be reactivated immediately, though it may take some time for all functionalities to fully load.

By following these steps, you can tailor Apple Intelligence to align with your preferences, ensuring a personalized and comfortable user experience.
