YouTube Music has introduced several new features aimed at enhancing user experience and personalization. Among the most notable updates is the ability for users to fine-tune AI-generated radio stations through the “Ask Music” feature.
This enhancement allows users to input prompts such as “more upbeat,” “just jazz songs,” or “only female vocals” to adjust the playlist according to their preferences. Users can also type custom prompts, with the AI dynamically updating the radio station in real time.
As of now, this feature is available to YouTube Music Premium subscribers on both Android and iOS platforms in a few countries but would be expected to roll out globally in the coming months.
In addition to the AI radio tuning, YouTube Music has expanded its customization options by allowing Android users to upload custom thumbnails for their playlists.
By opening a playlist and tapping the pencil icon in the 2×2 cover art, users can choose to “Choose from library” or “Take photo” to set a personalized image. This feature aims to give users more control over the visual representation of their playlists.
Google has announced plans to extend this functionality to iOS users in the coming months.
Furthermore, YouTube Music has introduced new themes for AI-generated custom playlist artwork. The newly added “Workout” and “Instruments” themes join the existing collection, which includes Colors, Cycles, Travel, Moods, Nature, Animals, Landscapes, Food and Drinks, and Fantasy.
These additions provide users with more diverse and contextually relevant options for their playlist visuals on YouTube.
Another significant update is the enhancement of the “Quick picks” feature. Users can now create a radio station based on multiple songs by selecting tracks from the “Quick picks” shelf. This is achieved by tapping the plus icon next to each song and then selecting “Start radio,” allowing for a more tailored listening experience.
This feature is now widely available on both Android and iOS platforms.
