YouTube Music is rolling out a new feature that allows Android users to share song lyrics directly from the app. This update brings a more interactive and social layer to the music-streaming experience, enabling listeners to highlight and share their favourite lyrical moments from tracks.
To use the feature, users simply play a song and navigate to the “Lyrics” tab. There, a new “Share” button appears, letting them select specific lines of the lyrics. Once chosen, the app generates a visually styled image that includes the lyrics, album artwork, and song details. Users can also choose from different background options to personalise the final image before sharing it via other apps or saving it locally.
This functionality is designed to encourage musical expression and discovery in a more engaging way. By making it easy to share lyrics that resonate emotionally or stand out creatively, YouTube Music hopes to build a stronger community of music lovers who connect over shared tastes and moments.
The lyrics-sharing option appears to be in a limited release phase for now, with only some users currently seeing the feature on their devices. However, as with many Google feature rollouts, it’s expected that wider availability will follow soon. Previous features, such as the revamped “Now Playing” interface, were also gradually introduced before becoming standard across all devices.
This move by YouTube Music places it in closer competition with Spotify, which already offers a similar feature. As streaming platforms look for new ways to drive user engagement, features like lyrics sharing play an important role by tapping into how music is used socially, especially on platforms like Instagram and TikTok, where short, shareable content thrives.
Users are encouraged to keep the app updated as the feature continues to roll out. For now, those who have access can start experimenting with sharing their favourite lines and turning their music experiences into shareable moments.
