YouTube is introducing some updates to its TV app to enhance the user experience with new features and a refreshed interface. These changes coincide with YouTube’s 20th anniversary, following its inception in 2005.
A notable addition is the customizable multiview feature for YouTube TV members. Previously limited to sports content, this feature now allows users to create personalised multiview windows that include non-sports channels.
Initially, the feature will be available for a select group of popular channels, with plans to expand to more networks and genres over time.
The YouTube TV app is also undergoing a redesign to improve navigation and accessibility. The updated interface will offer easier access to comments, channel information, and subscription options.
The video player is also set to receive a new look, enhancing the overall viewing experience.
According to the platform, users can expect easier navigation, improved playback and quality controls, and quicker access to comments, channel details, and subscription options.
A preview of the updated interface, shown with content from @LoFiGirl, highlights a more spacious and accessible layout.
Key controls such as play, pause, and skip are now centred on the screen, while options like channel information and the subscribe button are positioned on the left.
Other familiar tools, including settings and like/dislike buttons, remain on the left side, but are now more clearly organised for ease of use.
In addition to these updates, YouTube is expanding its “voice reply” feature, allowing more creators to respond to comments using voice messages. This expansion is part of YouTube’s efforts to foster better communication between creators and their audiences.
For YouTube Premium subscribers, a new 4x playback speed option is being rolled out on iOS and Android devices. This feature, which had been in testing since earlier this year, provides users with more flexibility in how they consume content.
