Huawei Honor

Huawei has has launched two devices in the Kenyan market, these being the Huawei Honor U8860 and Huawei MediaPad 7 Tablet. The Huawei Honor was announced in Q3 last year and released to the shops in December. Huawei has been made visible in the market with the success of the Huawei Ideos U8150 that did more than 210,000 device sales after a subsidized pricing made the devices literally fly off the shelves. This made Huawei the biggest smartphone brand in the market for quite sometime, I dont know whether that stands till now. With Huawei Honor, they seek to bring the higher end user with a Huawei option and take on that market too. Let’s take a walk-through of the specs, shall we?
Huawei Honor

Huawei Honor U8860 Specifications

  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • 3G HSDPA 14.4Mbps, GPRS class 10
  • 4″ TFT capacitive touchscreen, multitouch
  • Touch Sensitive Controls
  • 480 x 854 pixels
  • 1.4GHz Scorpion processor
  • Qualcomm MSM8255T Snapdragon chipset
  • Adreno 205 GPU
  • Accelerometer
  • 1GB Storage
  • 512MB RAM, 4GB ROM
  • microSD upto 32GB
  • Wi-Fi, DLNA, Wi-Fi Hotspot
  • Bluetooth v2.1
  • microUSB 2.0
  • 8MP rear camera AF, LED Flash, 0.3 front VGA
  • 122 x 61 x 11 dimensions
  • 140grams
  • HTML, Flash support
  • Fm Radio
  • GPS
  • 1930mAh Li-Ion Battery

Huawei Honor is an almost high end device, noticable by some features seen on high end devices, like the 8mp camera, 1.4Ghz processor, 1930mAh battery and 4 inch screen, however, the screen resolution, internal storage, and RAM are the drawbacks. But at a price point of Kshs 31,999, who can complain? Plus the design is also good. It’s good that it’s on Gingerbread since the internal storage and RAM would have been a strain if it were on Ice Cream Sandwich, but now that Gingerbread is an OS two generations down, one would wish it sold on Android 4.0. That 1930mAh battery looks like it will sure impress.

The Huawei MediaPad Tablet on the other hand is the one of “first 7 inch tablet running Android 3.2 Honeycomb” fame.

Huawei MediaPad 7

This one will be retailing at Kshs 34,999 and is a huge upgrade to the previous Huawei S 7 tablet. It runs Honeycomb while the previous one run Froyo, a user can tell the difference in OS fluidity, plus the screen is capacitive multitouch.

Huawei MediaPad Tablet Specifications:

  • Android 3.2 Honeycomb
  • 3G, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Hotspot
  • HSDPA 14.4Mbps
  • 7″ LCD Capacitive touchscreen, Multitouch
  • 800 x 1280 pixels display
  • 1.2Ghz Dual core Scorpion Processor
  • Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon
  • Adreno 220 GPU, Accelerometer, gyro, compass
  • 5.8GB internal storage, 8GB ROM
  • 1GB RAM
  • microSD upto 32GB
  • 390Gram
  • 190 x 124 x 10.5mm
  • HTML5 and flash support
  • 5mp rear camera, AF with Geotagging
  • 1.3Mp cront camera
  • Video recording of 720p@30fps
  • 4100mAh Li-Ion battery

The two devices will be retailing at Safaricom retail stores and come with a massive 1.5Gb of Data pre-bundled.
