Right from the start, the Galaxy Note 3, Samsung’s giant 5.7 inch smartphone, was billed as a fashion statement in addition to being your “regular smartphone”. Throw in the smartwatch, Galaxy Gear, that accompanied it and you get the full picture. Days after launch (even before the device went on sale worldwide), Samsung partnered with luxury accessories designer Dana Lorenz to provide leather cases adorned with gold studs for the Galaxy Note 3 and metal charms on the straps of the Galaxy Gear. Now Samsung is partnering with designer Swarovski to offer more along those lines during the Mercedez Benz Fashion Week 2014 in New York.
Designer Swarovski will provide covers for the Galaxy Note 3 with a unique design and studded with crystals. The cover will be a limted edition one and is billed as one of the must have accessories at the fashion show. The cover which will be accompanied by a shiny bracelet (just like the cover) will be retailing at $299 for a limited period exclusively at Swarovski’s retail store in Manhattan, New York. Just to put thinks into perspective, $299 is around the same price you can get the Galaxy Gear for or some other decent device on a carrier contract if you’re in a market with such. It is pricey and with the target market being those attending the Mercedez Benz Fashion Week in New York, you know who Swarovski and Samsung are after: the big spenders who love their gadgets.
The Note 3 covers will be available in three colours: Jet Back, Crystal Metallic Silver and a mix of Crystal Bermuda Blue and Crystal Metallic Light Gold.
It is not the first time we are seeing Samsung work with designer Swarovski. The Galaxy S III mini Crystal edition launched in Germany in November last year had 166 Swarovski crystals at the back. Perhaps we’ll see more of this in upcoming Samsung devices like the Galaxy S5.
