Sometime back we met with a yet to be announced successor to the Tecno Phantom Z, the current flagship from Tecno, a Hong Kong company that sells to Africa with Nigeria, Ethiopia and Kenya as the major markets it sells in. Tecno launched this year’s flagship device sometime in late June and it was a phone that made a statement in terms of what limits could be achieved from this quite fast growing mobile hardware vendor.
Tecno L7, as we came to learn is not the next bigger thing after Tecno Phantom Z if you go by the specs sheet. But it does make a statement in terms of design.
See below the specs sheet of the device before we delve deeper:
- 5 inch HD display (we have no information on further display technology)
- 1.3 GHz Quad-core processor Cortex-A7 CPU
- 2GB RAM
- MediaTek MT6582 chipset
- Mali-400MP2 GPU
- Android 4.4 Kitkat
- 13MP Autofocus rear camera
- 5MP front camera
- 3050 mAh battery
- 16GB total internal storage (internal microSD included)
The device which I saw in black has this silver colour metal band that makes it look more like iPhone 5s but thicker and larger. The metal band doesn’t go all the way, the top part is plastic. It has the dolby powered sound like the Phantom Z and the camera in the rear has a noticeable bulge. Back cover which is plastic is removable unlike what’s on the Phantom Z (back cover on phantom Z is removable too, but there’s really nothing you can do there as things are fixed). Generally it’s a looker.
The specs sheet is slightly trimmed down from the Phantom Z along the lines of display resolution, processor calibration and clocking, camera resolution, both front and rear, internal storage which is halved but the battery is slightly more powerful by 20 mAh.
Our understanding is that the device will launch in December in Kenya and going by speculation in the forums, could come priced at Kshs 20,000 or thereabouts. It may or may not have an actual launch like the flagships get. See below the image gallery. Click on any image to view.
