Startimes Introduces Own Brand of Well Priced Digital TVs With Internal Set-top Box

StartTimes media, a pay tv company, has announced the roll put of its new business unit, that marks the entry of the StarTimes digital television sets in the Kenyan market. The new business unit will complement the company’s existing pay tv offering it has operated for the past five years.

StartTimes revealed that is has over 10 million subscribers, providing them with up to 440 channels. For this reason, the company is expanding its business into new territories, with the aim of reaching more customers and providing more value.

“At StarTimes, we continue to invest a lot of resources in our research and development, key in availing the best technology to our subscribers and customers, the introduction of the StarTimes real digital TV is a testimony to this resolve”, said StarTimes VP for Marketing, Mr. Mark Lisboa, speaking during the launch.

The new StarTimes digital TVs come in 24 inch, 32 inch and 40 inch variant with a slightly bigger 42 inch model in the works. The key feature of the TVs, is the ability to receive both satellite and terrestrial television signals without connecting to an external set-top box. The StarTimes digital TVs are already available in the market and will be retailing at KES. 18,999 for the 24 inch model, KES. 26,499 for the 32 inch model and KES. 38,999 for the 40 inch model.

StarTimes claims that the new digital TVs are designed to save up to 50% power. The TVs are all full HD (1920*1080), have inbuilt Dolby audio system, wide voltage input, HDMI and USB ports. It was also revealed that the StarTimes digital TVs are going to receive a firmware update that will enable them to connect to the internet via Wi-Fi.

The company also announced an Easter offer, where between now (March 20th) and April 30th, subscribers will enjoy a “visual feast” where for every complete month of Basic subscription paid for, subscribers will automatically be upgraded to enjoy an extra week on the Classic bouquet, while for every subscription to the Classic bouquet, subscribers will enjoy one week Unique bouquet for free.

The offer has also been extended to the satellite TV customers, where they will get an extra week for free on the Super bouquet for every one month subscription of the Smart bouquet.
