Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 Unboxing and First Impressions

The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 is one of the most exciting smartphones from Huawei this year in its Y series as it packs midrange and flagship specs at an affordable price. As a follow up to the Huawei Y7 Prime 2018, the Y7 Prime 2019 packs more specs and power together with an even modern design for 2019. Here’s a quick rundown of what you get:

  • Display: 6.26″
  • Software: EMUI 8.2 (based on Android 8.1 Oreo)
  • Processor: Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 450
  • Memory: 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage
  • Main Camera: Dual 13MP + 2MP
  • Front Camera: 16MP
  • Battery: 4000mAh

Right out of the box you get the phone plus its accessories. You also get the sim ejector tool, the transparent plastic case to showcase the beautiful and back(gradient-coloured for the Aurora Blue version) and still keep the phone in its pristine condition without the fingerprint smudges. There’s a quick start guide. You also get a 3 pin power adapter, a USB cable and some earphones. Nothing too crazy here.

The Huawei Y7 prime 2019 comes in a variety of colours including midnight black, coral red and aurora blue which is the one I have right now. The back is arched for a good grip and gives you that reassuring firmness.

The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 has a 6.26 inch IPS LCD dewdrop display. On the back, you get the dual camera setup which we’ll get in a bit. On the top, you get the 3.5mm headphone jack with the volume rocker and the power buttons on the right and the sim tray on the left with the USB power port below and the mono speaker. The sim tray holds two dual 4G Volte slots and a slot for expandable memory.

The screen is a front –filling display as you can see with the relatively smaller bezels on the side and bottom. On the top, you get the nice and subtle dewdrop style notch that doesn’t intrude that much on the screen when compared to other notches in this price range. You get a fast and reliable rear fingerprint scanner on the back while the notch houses the front camera that lets you use your face to unlock the phone. Huawei has implemented face unlock 2.0 for a dependable and relatively fast way to unlock your phone.

On the software side, the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo and EMUI 8.2 that comes with its little perks that most people will find useful. The user interface is more smooth than the previous version and you also get to bring back the app drawer if the iOS-ish home style isn’t to your liking.

The display though LCD is perfect and crisp as you can see. Its spacious screen offers pretty sharp visuals and will still do the job if you’re into binging videos or scrolling through the web while on the go. You also get to fiddle with the screen’s colour temperature. My early impression is that this is obviously a nice looking screen. The tiny notch is a handy bonus too but if you don’t like, there’s an option to disable it but why would you do that? Honestly, I loved it.

The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset backed up with 3 gigs of RAM and 32 gigs of onboard storage which you can expand via microSD ensuring that everything runs nice and nippy and that nothing lags during your day to day use. Stay tuned for our full review coming soon.

The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 comes packed with a massive battery with a capacity of 4000 milliamps similar to the one in the Mate 20 and should keep you going all day easily. There’s also intelligent power saving modes to squeeze more out of the battery when you’re nowhere near a place you could charge it

On to the cameras. The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 gets a dual rear camera setup, a 13MP and MPl sensor and an LED flash. On the front is the 16MP selfie shooter. Opening the camera, you get several modes to play around with including AI mode, beauty, normal, video, aperture(portrait mode). Clicking on more, you get additional modes including AR, HDR, document scan and good food mode. For video, the Y7 prime 2019 can do both 720p and 1080p videos on the rear camera.

I’ll go ahead and put my sim cards and make the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 my daily driver to see how it holds up and if it’s worth the money. Stay tuned for my full review coming soon. In the meantime, go watch our unboxing video above.
