Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 and TECNO Camon 11 displayThe Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 is one of the most exciting smartphones from Huawei in its Y series that start this year on a high note. The TECNO Camon 11 is TECNO Camon 11 Pro’s sibling in its camera-centric Camon series of phones. I’ve been really looking forward to this comparison. You’d think price defines more quality or that specs define better performance but there’s only one way to find out.

Both the TECNO Camon 11 and the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 are each incredible in their own way. By the end of this comparison video, you’ll find out which one I’d recommend for most people and which one I’d take home myself.

Design

The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 comes with an eye-grabbing power. The various colours the phones come in will wow you, from Midnight black, Aurora blue and the Coral Red which is a lovely colour considering what month we’re in right now.

The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 also has a few hardware wins to claim if aesthetics aren’t your liking. Both its rear fingerprint sensor and face unlocking are relatively faster and more reliable. The 3D arc design of the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 offers a more comfortable grip and you get that reassuring firmness when you hold the phone.

Display

Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 and TECNO Camon 11 display

The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 has a 6.26-inch HD+ display with a dewdrop notch that is more subtle than the TECNO Camon 11’s relatively larger notch on the 6.2-inch display.

The more screen real estate on the Y7 prime is a huge tick for me when binging multimedia content from Showmax movies to YouTube Videos or just lazily scrolling through my social media feed be it Twitter or Instagram.

In terms of display, the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 claims this segment.

Battery life

The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 ekes out on battery life. Now, the TECNO Camon 11 is no slouch here too. The TECNO Camon 11 packs 3750 mAh while the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 brings 4000 mAh battery.

Both are huge batteries although the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 uses intelligent power management features to even squeeze more out of the massive battery when the time calls for it like when you’re nowhere near a place you could charge it. These neat features give the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 a kick over the TECNO Camon 11 so if you’re looking for a  phone that will give enough juice to power you through the day if you’re heavy user or two if you’re an average user, then the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 is your best pick.

Performance

How do these phones compare when it comes to performance. Both pack 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage although you can expand more on the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019  up to 512GB while the TECNO Camon 11 is limited to 256GB of expandable memory.

The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 runs on a faster processor than the TECNO Camon 11 although. Both phones bring pretty decent performance to the table.

If you are an avid mobile gamer, the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 has a Game suite with neat features such as Game acceleration and Zero Interruptions that ensure gaming on the phone is as seamless as it can get with no distractions. With the Game suite, processor performance is increased when demanding games are launched. You also get improved graphics and reduced latency for gameplay with the average frame rates boosted to the fullest possible rate with better battery efficiency. This is generally a win here for the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 for both an average user and a gamer.

Cameras

Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 and TECNO Camon 11 cameras

Both phones pack 16MP selfie snappers on the front. When you flip the phones over, they still pack the same dual 13MP and 2MP dual rear cameras. When it comes to the photography department, both the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 and the TECNO Camon 11 take pretty decent photos during the day with enough lighting and patience.

Here’s where the lines get drawn depending on your preferences. I liked the selfies on the TECNO Camon 11while the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 takes much better photos on its rear camera. The Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 packs more features for users to play around with its front and main camera. The selfie snapper has features such as AR lens to play around with.

If you’re into beautification, there’s that on both phones. On the back, both are powered by AI although, the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 carries more scene recognitions than the Camon 11 and that gives you more room to take even better photos. In low light, both phones struggle although the night mode on the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019  tried to bring out the best of what the camera shot.

Overall, the choice of what to pick will depend on your preference. The TECNO Camon 11 here shines but the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 doesn’t tag so far in the race.

Dual 4G VoLTE

Another thing to note when it comes to network connections, the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 boasts of having dual 4g VoLTE. The slot is not Faiba 4G ready which the TECNO Camon 11 packs. So if you’re data conscious, the TECNO Camon 11 is for you.

My thoughts on the Dual 4G VoLTE on the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 are that Huawei is planning for Safaricom’s 4G VoLTE that they’re reportedly working on but we’ll see.

In General

Most android phones paint over Android with their own customizations. Even though both EMUI and HiOS are annoying, I prefer the former. EMUI 8.2 is much more leaner and customizer-friendly than its counterpart, HiOS. EMUI has nice features tucked under it and is less annoying than HiOS offered on the TECNO Camon 11.

I liked the general Android experience on the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019. Also if you’re coming from the Huawei Y7 Prime 2018, this is a worthy upgrade too.

In conclusion, a purchase made on either phone is money well spent but for me, the cohesive complete package by the Huawei Y7 Prime 2019 make it my top pick in this comparison.
