p30 lite vs y9 2019

Huawei has several phones on different price brackets and they recently announced the P30, P30 Pro and the P30 lite.

The P30 Lite in particular is the cheaper of the three where it will retail in Kenya for Kshs 29,999 and it is priced close to another Huawei mid-ranger, the Y9 2019.

The Y9 2019 is priced at Kshs 23,499 and you might be wondering as a future owner of these two phones of the differences between the two. They do share some specifications and differ in others and this article will help shed light between them.

Design

The Y9 and the P30 lite have a similar design aesthetic but there are key differences. There are triple cameras at the back on the P30 lite and two with the Y9. The Y9 has dual cameras at the front and the P30 lite has one selfie camera.

Both have 1080p displays but the difference comes to the notches. The Y9 2019 has an iPhone like rectangular notch and the P30 lite has a water-drop notch. Also, the Y9 has a bigger 6.5 inch LCD display while the P30 lite has a smaller 6.15 inch display.

Generally, they look rather similar and you’d easily confuse the two if you didn’t know these subtle differences.

Storage, RAM and Processors

The Huawei Y9 and the P30 Lie share the same Kirin 710 which is a competent mid-range processor.

They differ on the amount of internal storage and RAM. The Y9 has 4 GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage which is very competent at its price range. The P30 Lite being slightly expensive has 6GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.

Cameras

This is where they differ completely. The Y9 has dual selfie cameras and dual primary cameras while the P30 lite has one selfie camera and a triple camera primary system.

The Y9 2019 has a dual 16MP and a 2MP selfie camera system and a dual 13MP and a 2MP primary camera system. The P30 lite has a single impressive 32MP selfie camera and a triple primary camera system that features a man 24MP main camera, 8MP ultra wide camera and a 2MP depth sensor.

The inclusion of the wide angle camera on the P30 lite is pretty handy since we only see this type of camera being added on expensive flagship phones. If you like ultra wide cameras, well the P30 lite is probably the cheapest phone that will allow you to take such cool photos.

Battery

A big difference between the Y9 2019 and the P30 lite is the difference in battery capacities. The P30 Lite has a 3340mAh battery which is respectable, but the Y9 2019 has a massive 4000mAh battery, which is absolutely great.

This means that the Y9 2019 will definitely have better battery life than the P30 lite but considering how aggressive Huawei’s battery saving techniques are, the P30 lite might turn out to have pretty good battery life too.

Extras

The Huawei P30 lite has a type C connector which is great but the Y9 has the much older microUSB type connector.

Also, the P30 lite has a 18W charger while the Y9 has the much slower 10W charger, which means the P30 lite will charge much faster with its charger than the Y9 with its.

Conclusion

There is quite a difference between the Y9 and the P30 lite and you see why you pay Kshs 6,000 more for the P30 lite. However, the only thing that the P30 lite is inferior to the Y9 is the battery capacity but checking out the other specifications, it is either equal or better than the Y9.
