The eagerly awaited Huawei P30, P30 Pro and the P30 Lite were officially launched in Kenya. Huawei’s P30 series of phones will allow Kenyan consumers to enjoy Huawei’s the photographic powerhouses that the P series is known for. Huawei finally unveiled the triple lineup plus their local pricing and availability for each of them.

Here’s what to expect from the Huawei P30, P30 Pro and the P30 Lite

The Chinese tech giant has placed the P series as their premier camera phones and not just for photography enthusiasts but also targetting mainstream users depending on their budget and thus the different variants.

Huawei P30 Pro

The Huawei P30 Pro features a beautiful 6.47″ OLED display in a 19.5:9 aspect ratio with Full HD+(1080×2340 pixels). The Huawei P30 Pro runs on EMUI 9.1 based on Android 9.0 Pie. Expect to get a fast and fluid performance by the Kirin 980 SoC octa-core processor together with the  8GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB onboard storage. There’s Performance mode feature and Huawei’s proprietary file system that gives an edge to the general performance when transferring files.

Let’s talk about the optics on this cameraphone flagship. The Huawei P30 Pro packs four rear cameras: a 40MP wide angle sensor, a 20MP ultra-wide sensor, an 8MP telephoto sensor and  Huawei’s time-of-flight (ToF) sensor while the front rocks a 32MP wide-angle selfie camera with AI and HDR+. The AI-powered camera setup gets you 5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom, and 50x digital zoom – all lossless and with Optical Image Stabilization(OIS). There’s also Dual-View video mode which will let users shoot wide-angle and close-up views at the same time.

Huawei took smartphones weakness in photography – the ability to zoom without loss in sharpness and turned it into its strength. The telephoto camera gets a periscope-like lens arrangement. The main camera also gets a makeover: the 40MP sensor gets an RYYB (red, yellow, yellow, blue) subpixel setup instead of the usual RGB(red, green, blue) so as to collect more light which comes in handy for taking excellent low light shots – all in this done in a fraction of a second. Quick autofocus is done using a 3D depth sensor for taking dope graduating bokeh photos or portraits. Master AI on the Huawei P30 Pro packs helps tweak sharpness and colours such as deepening blacks relative to the scene.

The Huawei P30 Pro is powered by a 4200mAh battery that comes with 15W Wireless Quick Charge and 40W SuperCharge feature plus reverse wireless charging. This is a dual SIM (4G VoLTE) device with an in-display fingerprint coming in various colours including Aurora and Breathing Crystal.

Huawei P30

The Huawei P30 rocks similar specs to its older brother but sacrifices other features such as getting a 16MP ultra-wide sensor instead of the 20MP ultra-wide sensor in its triple rear setup, a smaller 3650 mAh battery with relatively slow fast charging at 22.5W.

Huawei P30 Lite

The Huawei P30 Lite is the smaller sibling in this lineup but it still as mighty as the rest of the P series. It rocks a 6.15″ display with a resolution of 1080×2312 pixels at a pixel density of 415 pixels. The Huawei P30 Lite comes with EMUI 9.1 based on Android 9.0 Pie. Hisilicon Kirin 710 processor together with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage run the device.

The Huawei P30 Lite is powered by 3,340mAh battery with proprietary fast charging. It gets the same triple cameras but toned down to a 24MP wide angle sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor and 2MP telephoto sensor. Although the selfie camera still remains at 32MP and wide selfie.
