Huawei Y9 Prime 2019

Huawei unveiled the Y9 Prime 2019 recently and it is a really good phone for the price. However, you might have known from reading our articles or peeked at the store that they also have the Y9 2019. The question would then be: What are the differences between the two phones?

Well, they are some key differences between these two phones. Although they share several features and the names alike, they are clearly distinct from one another in some ways.  This article will showcase them in detail.

Design

This is one of the main ways to differentiate between the Y9 Prime 2019 and the Y9 2019.

The Y9 2019’s front shows a notch with two camera lenses at the front and two cameras at the back. The Y9 Prime 2019 has a single motorized selfie camera and three cameras at the back. The Y9 Prime 2019 has no notch thanks to the motorized selfie camera and with that gives it a more ‘immersive look.

Another differentiating design element is clearly shown at the back. The Y9 Prime 2019 can be differentiated from the Y9 2019 by the two toned gradient finish like the one you see on a Google Pixel phone.

Cameras

Both the Y9 Prime 2019 and the Y9 2019 have 4 cameras each. However, the Prime has some interesting bits to it.

The Y9 2019 has a dual selfie camera system composed of a 16MP f/2.0 main camera and a 2MP depth sensor. Its primary camera is a 13MP sensor with a wide f/1.8 aperture and another 2MP depth sensor.

The Y9 Prime 2019’s situation is more interesting. It has a single 16MP f/2.0 primary camera housed that is summoned at will through a motorized system. The party is at the back with this phone where you have a 16MP f/1.8 main camera, a 2MP depth sensor and a 8MP wide angle camera.

The Y9 Prime 2019 has a more versatile camera system than the Y9 thanks to that wide angle camera. It allows you the flexibility to take photos that you wouldn’t take with the Y9 2019, especially where you’d want to capture more in a scene.

USB Connectivity

Another major difference between the two phones is in the connectivity department.

The Y9 2019 features the old micro USB port that we are used to seeing in cheaper phones.

However, the Y9 Prime 2019 has the newer USB Type C port which is better and can be a deal breaker for some.

Storage

The Huawei Y9 2019 only has 64GB of internal storage as standard. The Y9 Prime 2019 comes with either 64GB or 128GB of internal storage as standard.

You can however expand any of the internal storage capacities cheaply via MicroSD card expansion.

Price

Price is the other major differentiating factor among these two phones.

The Y9 2019 retails for around Kshs 20,000 which is a pretty good deal for a phone of its calibre.

However, the Y9 Prime currently retails at Kshs 24,999 during Jumia’s Anniversary sale which is running for a limited time.
