The long-awaited Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is finally here. It was launched early this morning for the Kenyan market. This is Huawei’s first phone in the country to rock a retractable selfie camera.
Ditching the notch for the pop-up camera gives the Huawei a near bezel-less design. with decent brightness and adequate colour reproduction that looks to offer enough screen real estate to consume multimedia content or play mobile games. You get a 6.59-inch Full HD Ultra FullView display with a resolution of 2340 by 1080.
The plastic finish looks good and you get various colours including Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue, Emerald Green and Coral Red. The back is curved just like the P30 series to give a good grip for easy one-handed use.
Optics-wise, the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 rocks a pop-up camera mechanism that houses the 16MP f/2.0 lens. The retractable camera has been tested thoroughly and can sustain up to 100,000 pop-ups.
At the back of the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is a triple camera setup that includes a 16MP(f/1.8) main lens, an 8MP(f/2.4) wide-angle shooter with 120 degrees FOV(Field of View) and 2MP(f/2.4) depth sensor units.
The cameras are AI-powered to shoot stunning selfies, upgraded scene recognition to up to 22 categories and 500 scenes for more vivid shots. Huawei uses 6P lenses that gather more light to enhance the resolution and contrast of photos taken and thus they’ll come out brighter and clearer.
The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 shoots brilliant 3D portraits from both the rear and front cameras with studio-quality lighting effects.
The Kirin 710 processor runs the Huawei Y9 Prime 2019. It also rocks 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage plus the ability to expand it via a microSD up to 512GB.
The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 packs a 4000mAh battery plus feature smart power saving options to increase its efficiency and give users extended battery life – It also sports a type-C USB port.
A rear fingerprint sensor and Face Unlock are present for biometrics

The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 will start selling exclusively on Jumia for Ksh 24,999 and you can pre-order it until the 4th of July to get a gift hamper that includes headphones.
