OPPO Reno4 to Co-exist Alongside Reno3

OPPO Reno4 series is live, at least in China. The company has been selling its devices in Kenya for an extended period, but the big question is why the Reno4 are so quick to launch because OPPO just started selling the Reno3 in other markets, including Kenya.

In a previous article, we have detailed that Kenya did not get the Reno3 Pro because it has 5G radios that are not supported in Kenya. Both the Reno4 and Reno4 Pro are powered by S765G, hence are equipped with 5G.

In terms of chipset, the Reno3 Pro and the Reno4 series are supported by the same chipset, so we do not see why OPPO should not bring them here next time.

If that sounds confusing, well, it is, but OPPO has reason to do flood the market with many phones. In essence, the Reno4 series is more than the successor of the Reno3 series and does not replace it per se.

The naming scheme is even confusing because both devices are new, and will make some people who have already bought the Reno3 unhappy. Nevertheless, the devices are supposed to co-exist alongside each other.

What’s more, having the same chipset in the Reno4 and Reno4 Pro ensures that the devices have the same level of performance.

Both devices have the same battery size that also charges plenty fast with 65W fast charging. This means they fill up to 60% in 15 minutes and fully charge by the 36th minute. This can is a very big deal for people who want to juice their phones in record time.

Both the Reno3 and Reno4 have flat AMOLED screens, but the Reno4 Pro’s is curved and refreshes quicker at 90 Hz.

The other major difference is in terms of cameras. The Reno3 has no OIS anywhere. The Reno4 has a 48MP main shooter, an 8 MP wide-angle lens, and a 2 MP B/W camera. The Pro has OIS for the main shooter. improvements have also been made in terms of video quality.

All in all, the Reno4 series not only succeeds the Reno3; it is made to sell alongside them because they largely offer the same experience.
