Rise of the Selfie
During the launch, TECNO showcased “Rise of the Selfie”, a documentary that discusses thought-provoking subjects surrounding the rise of the selfie and the selfie generation’s needs.
The documentary dived into the selfie’s history and why it has become such an essential feature of the current generation.
“JUST AS THE SELFIE IS A NATURAL EXTENSION OF INDIVIDUAL EXPRESSION, THE MOBILE PHONE CAMERA
BECOMES THE TECHNOLOGY THROUGH WHICH WE EXPRESS OURSELVES.”
Hollywood actor Chris Evans, TECNO’s newest brand ambassador is featured saying, “You might want a picture that is vivid and full of emotion or you might want something simple,” but what makes it a good image is because it is “so individual”.
This aligns with a cause TECNO has always been championing: a smartphone is not about the brand,
but about the consumer himself. To be the smartphone brand for the users who are always “young
at heart” and challenge themselves for new things, TECNO CAMON 17 Pro enables individuals’ want
to further express their unique selves.
The documentary outlines the way of looking at the future. Selfies will be an important medium of self-expression, as gleaned from how the young ‘digital native’ generation, not just for individuals but also groups, whether online or in person. The film feature experts Thomas Curran, Professor of Psychology, Eugenie Shinkle, Reader in Photography and Lucy Hedges, Tech Journalist in Photography, to share their valuable insights. They introduced the audience to the less heard beginnings of the selfie. This gave the audience an understanding of this generation’s habits and why the TECNO CAMON 17 is so well-suited for its users.
In the film, Sara Johansen, Fashion Model, illustrated how selfies are a game-changer for people who are not celebrities to become influencers themselves. She poses with the TECNO CAMON 17 in the documentary, flaunting the phone’s sleek details and selfie skills. Sara claimed that selfie phones like the TECNO CAMON 17 Pro allows users to control their own images by taking photos that showcase the best of themselves, and also is an unconscious self suggestion to be the best self, which is the core value of selfie.
Fitted with the most updated functions, the TECNO CAMON 17 will also use the next generation TAIVOS 2.0 to optimise the camera settings based on the user’s scenery changes. All this is captured by a front camera that is inconspicuously placed.
The social phenomenon of selfies has been gaining serious momentum in recent years and have become central to how people express themselves. The world has shifted permanently due to the impacts of COVID-19 and the selfie function has perhaps become even more important as people use it to keep in touch with loved ones safely. The CAMON 17 Pro is the first product to put this behaviour into focus as users nowadays in the post-epidemic era associate selfies with their identity, making phone manufacturers such as TECNO sit up and take note.
The TECNO CAMON 17’s entrance to the smartphone market came at the perfect time. Users want more from their selfies and would appreciate a smartphone with a high-quality camera and grants them the freedom to explore their creativity. The TECNO CAMON series of today has simplified the photo taking process for the user’s ease of use and made it so much more enjoyable even for someone not well-versed with technology.
TECNO Recognized by Counterpoint for Its AI-Enhanced Photography
Not only will the user’s loved ones be able to enjoy life-like photos, the FHD screen of the TECNO CAMON 17 is extremely clear. This high-quality display provides users incomparable clarity as they chat over video calls. They can also fully immerse in high-definition videos and intense games.
The innovative launch event exploring the story of selfie reflects the rising brand horizon to exert
more effort on industrial, social, and humanistic care rather than the product portfolio only which is
an indication that TECNO is on the way to one of the leading brands around the world.
As a rising global brand, TECNO is showing the vision and maturity as a thought leader contributing
to the global conversation through the commission of the documentary.
Hollywood Actor Chris Evans Is Now TECNO’s New Brand Ambassador
TECNO also took the stage to announce that Chris Evans is now their new brand ambassador.
This signing has intensified TECNO’s determination of globalization allowing them to break into emerging markets around the world to become a leader in those areas. As the brand continues to grow on the world stage, TECNO now finds itself competing with major mainstream brands, who will undoubtedly take note of this new partnership.
Best known for his role as Captain America in the Marvel Universe series of films, the charismatic Chris Evans embodies TECNO’s brand motto ‘young at heart’ and the pursuit of excellence. The partnership with Evans enhances TECNO’s continuous global footprint and helps to highlight the brand’s upgraded product design, which is increasingly fashionable, energetic, and constantly pioneering.
What TECNO Has Been Upto
In the past 2 years, TECNO has obtained certain positive results in globalization and internationalization by strengthening its technology innovation, stylish design detailed with elegant taste, professional photography experience as well as its worldwide partner network. The industry has witnessed TECNO’s solid achievement in mobile photography by its bagging of the championship after competing with the world’s best minds at its first match in the Look In Person (LIP) competition at Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) 2020 in Track 5: Dark Complexion Portrait Segmentation Challenge.
And by industry-leading research institution Counterpoint’s most recent report, TECNO is recognized as one of the few brands that have made breakthroughs in AI-enhanced mobile photography and videography.
TECNO’s excellent photographic performance also let the brand earn distinctions in Guinness World Records 2020 with the largest flipbook shot by its photography pioneer CAMON product line and in IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin) with “Camera Technology Innovation Smartphone Gold Award 2020”.
TECNO’s increasing market share also speaks loudly for its globalization footprint. Last year, TECNO led the industry through a tough year, where brands took a hit in terms of smartphone sales. Global market intelligence company IDC reports that TECNO sales volume exceeded 25 million units, up 45%, and revenue exceeded 15 billion, up 38% YoY in 2020. TECNO’s India smartphone sales, increased more than 200% YoY, topped 5 million units in 2020, breaking its own sales growth record.
There seems to be nothing stopping the upcoming brand from breaking new grounds and achieving new heights.
From the perspective of trend analysis, the future holds great promise for TECNO, as further exhilarating steps are anticipated. TECNO has been committed to strengthen the R&D investment and layout in intelligent applications, intelligent connected devices, and build an intelligent ecosystem integrating hardware and software. Last year, the R&D investment increased by about 30% year on year. The sky is the limit if TECNO continues its trajectory of gaining greater market share.
