Asus Strix G16

Asus has various models of its laptops – both for productivity, gaming and creators – ranging from the Zenbook, Vivobook, Zephyrus, Tuf, Strix and more.

Asus ROG Strix G16(2023)

The Strix G16(2023) is their latest gaming laptop sporting the best Intel CPU and Nvidia RTX dedicated GPU. It also features a new design and improved cooling for intense gaming sessions.

Design

As per the ROG series of laptops, we get the ROG slash pattern logo at the back which is made of aluminium. The chassis is however made of light plastic making the whole laptop weigh in at 2.7kg. The Strix G16 comes in two versions – Volt Green and Eclipse Gray.

It features multiple RGB Lighting zones including under-glow wraparound light around the chassis that can be customised in the Aura Sync Support app.

The screen is a 16-inch Nebula Display with really slim bezels in a 16:10 aspect ratio. Resolution, refresh rate and display type come as options as you can choose between an IPS QHD+ screen, a Mini LED QHD+ screen, and an IPS FHD+ screen. All these screens support G-Sync and only the IPS FHD+ screen lacks Dolby Vision.

  • IPS FHD+ screen: 250 nits brightness, 3ms response time, 100% sRGB, 240Hz refresh rate, 1920×1200 pixel resolution
  • Mini LED QHD+ screen: 600 nits brightness, 3ms response time, 100% DCI-P3, 165Hz refresh rate(1200nits HDR peak brightness), 2560×1600 pixel resolution, VESA DisplayHDR
  • IPS QHD+ screen: 500 nits brightness, 3ms response time, 100% DCI-P3, 240Hz refresh rate, 2560×1600 pixel resolution

The keyboard has RGB lighting and at the upper left of the deck, we also get 5 programmable hotkeys. The keys provide a 2mm travel distance for comfortable typing.

The glass trackpad is 10% wider measuring 126.9 x 84mm.

At the top is a 720p webcam with ROG Two Way AI Noise cancelling for clear video calls. The noise-cancelling features can be customised as well.

The Strix G16 has extended rubber feet at the bottom to help with cooling and grip on flat surfaces.

Asu has covered the laptop in a number of ports both on the left side and right sides. You get an audio combo jack, one ethernet port(2.5G LAN), one HDMI 2.1 port, one Thunderbolt 4 port(DP2.0 (dGPU), G-Sync®, 100W PD), one 3.2 Gen2 Type-C port(DP1.4 (dGPU), G-Sync®, 100W PD) and two USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A  ports.

The laptop has two Woofers with Smart Amp Technology that support Dolby Atmos and can be tuned for either gaming or watching movies.

Performance

Under the hood is an Intel 13th gen processor – the Strix G16 has an i9-13900H processor with 14 cores and 20 threads and Intel Iris Xe Graphics integrated graphics. Last year’s unit was powered by an AMD R9 6900HX processor. The newer Intel processor outperforms the Ryzen processor both in single-core and multicore performance.

Asus ROG Strix G16(2023) also comes with Nvidia’s RTX 40 series graphics that feature improved Ray Tracing performance. Configurations start with the RTX 4060 and the RTX 4070. The Strix G 2022 had the RTX 3070Ti.

The MUX switch from last year gets featured in this year’s unit and allows users to manually engage or disengage the processor’s integrated graphics allowing the frames to be routed directly from the discrete GPU to the display. Strix G16(2023) gets Nvidia Advanced Optimus which automatically switches between the discrete graphics and integrated graphics depending on the situation. This ultimately improves gaming performance.

Asus ROG Strix G16(2023) comes with 64GB DDR5 4800MHz memory in dual channel configuration. For storage, you get up to 2TB of PCIe 4.0 with speeds reaching 5000MB/s.

To keep the laptop cool during gaming, Strix G16 comes with ROG Intelligent Cooling Ecosystem which features Conductonaut Extreme Liquid metal, Frost Force Technology, 0dB Ambient Cooling, Pulsar Heatsink, Arc Flow Fans and Scenario Profiles.

You can switch between multiple operating modes including manual, Turbo, Performance, and Silent.

The laptop comes enabled with Wi-Fi 6E for ultrafast connectivity with comparatively lower latency.

Asus included a free 30-day subscription to XBOX Game Pass with the Strix G16 which means for a month you get unlimited access to over 100 high-quality PC games on Windows 10 or above.

Battery Life

A 90Whr battery keeps the lights on the Strix G16 and can be charged with the 330W adapter through the DC plug or 100W PD Type-C port which can juice it up to 50% in half an hour.

Pricing and Availability

Pricing and availability details have yet to be made but we’ll update you when Asus Kenya announces them.
