Google continues to better the Android experience with a fresh batch of updates, introducing live location sharing in the Find My Device app and AI-powered scam detection in Google Messages.
These features are designed to improve user safety, security, and convenience, making Android devices even more intuitive and protective.
Find My Device: Live Location Sharing
Previously, Google’s Find My Device was primarily used to track lost and stolen smartphones and other connected accessories. Now, Google is expanding its functionality to help users share their live location with friends and family.
How It Works
- Users can open the Find My Device app and tap the “+” button to share their location.
- You can set a duration for sharing, i.e., 1 hour, all day, or until it’s manually turned off.
- Select specific people to share your location with.
- The recipients will see your real-time location on a map and receive regular reminders via notifications.
This feature makes it easier for loved ones to keep track of each other, whether it’s for safety reasons, coordinating meetups, or checking in on someone’s whereabouts. Live location sharing started rolling out on March 4 to all supported Android devices.
Google Messages: AI-Powered Scam Detection
To combat the increasing number of scam texts and phishing attempts, Google is integrating AI-powered scam detection into Google Messages. This new feature actively monitors SMS, MMS, and RCS messages to detect suspicious activity in real time.
How Scam Detection Works
- Google Messages analyzes incoming and outgoing messages for potential scams.
- If a suspicious message is detected, a real-time alert appears within the conversation thread.
- Users can choose to block and report the sender or mark the message as safe.
- The scam detection process happens locally on the device, ensuring user privacy.
This feature is currently available in English for users in the US, UK, and Canada, with plans for broader expansion.
Other Android Updates
In addition to live location and scam detection, Google has introduced several other enhancements for Android users.
- Game Integration with Android Auto: Play games like Candy Crush Saga and Angry Birds 2 on your car’s infotainment screen while parked.
- Shopping Upgrades in Chrome: New tools such as price tracking, drop alerts, and comparison features help users find better deals.
Google’s latest Android updates focus on security, safety, and convenience. Live location sharing makes it easier to stay connected with loved ones, while AI scam detection helps protect users from fraud.
