Anthropic is folding Claude Cowork into regular Claude chat and rolling out two new tools: Claude Docs and Claude Slides. The changes start immediately for Pro and Max users, with Team and Free plans getting access later.
Until now, Claude users had to pick a lane. Cowork was the place for bigger, longer-running work. Claude Design was where you went for visual output. Regular chat was for everything else.
Anthropic says that setup created a real problem: people had to decide where a task belonged before they even started, and work done in one place didn’t carry over to another.
That separation is going away. Cowork and chat are becoming one interface, and the tools that used to live only in Cowork or Design are now available in any conversation. You keep your existing chats, projects, artifacts, connectors, and skills no matter which one you used before.
Claude Docs and Claude Slides
The main additions are Claude Docs and Claude Slides, both launching in beta. You can ask Claude for a document or a presentation directly in a chat, and it builds one on the spot.
Docs work a lot like Google Docs. They start out private, but you can invite other people to edit them, and multiple people (including Claude) can work on the same document at once. Comments work the same way you’d expect, showing up attached to specific parts of the text.
Slides work similarly. Ask for a presentation and Claude drafts the deck. You can edit it directly in the browser, present it straight from Claude, or download it as a PowerPoint file or PDF.
Both tools sit alongside Claude Design, which now also works inside normal conversations instead of being its own separate space. If you were already using Design on its own, nothing changes there.
How It’s Supposed to Work
Anthropic gave an example of how the new system would work.
It’s late morning and a weekly report is due at noon. You ask Claude what happened in your team’s pipeline over the past week, then tell it to write the report in your team’s usual format, flag anything that slipped, and turn the key points into five slides for a leadership meeting.
Claude will ask questions if something isn’t clear. You can check on progress from your phone before you’re even at your desk. When you sit down, the report is there as a document, possibly with notes already added by a teammate, and the slide deck is ready to open and adjust.
Since both came from the same conversation, the slides and the report actually match. You can tweak a line yourself, leave Claude a comment on a slide, and share the link. You can even schedule the whole thing to run automatically every Monday.
Everything made through Docs, Slides, or Design gets one shareable link that opens on a phone, so you’re not stuck exporting files just to hand something off.
By default, Claude still asks before taking actions. If you’d rather it just keep working and only flag you when something needs a decision, there’s a setting for that. Either way, you keep final approval.
Rollout
This starts with Pro and Max plans on web, desktop, and mobile over the next few weeks. There’s nothing to turn on manually. Team and Free plans follow after that, and Enterprise admins get at least 30 days’ notice before anything changes for their organization.
Anthropic’s models have generally been considered stronger than Google’s, but Google has had the edge of building Gemini directly into Docs, Sheets, and Slides, tools most office workers already use daily.
Earlier this year Google expanded that integration further, adding a Gemini chat window inside Docs and letting it generate and edit full documents and slides on its own.
By building document and presentation creation directly into Claude, Anthropic wants to close that gap and give people fewer reasons to leave a Claude conversation to get everyday office work done.
