Infinix has been trying to crack into the premium midrange space with its slew of devices in the past few years with the Zero and Note lineup. They recently launched the Note 40 series and we got our hands on the Infinix Note 40 Pro 4G.
The Infinix Note 40 Pro 4G boasts of MagCharge which is part of the phone’s All Round FastCarge 2.0 but is there more to it? We take a look at all that in our in-depth review.
UNBOXING
Infinix is generous with what you get in the box. You get the phone, a screen protector, MagCase( back case that supports wireless charging), Type-C wired earphones, Type-C charging cable, 20W MagPad(wireless charging pad), and 70W power brick.
DESIGN
The Note 40 series features a new design that aligns with what we’ve seen with the Zero 30 series – a slim profile with a curved back and display. We have a 6.78-inch 10-bit AMOLED slightly curved(55-degrees) screen protected by Gorilla Glass with FHD+ screen resolution(1080 x 2436 pixels), 120Hz refresh rate, and 1300 nits peak brightness.
This is a beautiful and bright screen and the curved design gives it a premium look. It’s enjoyable to use whether browsing the web, catching on a movie, or even gaming. That high refresh rate and AMOLED makes everything pop and interacting with the interface is pretty fast. The dual speakers tuned by JBL are the cherry on top making sure your multimedia experience is great all around.
Other features include an under-display fingerprint reader, dual microphones, IP54 ingress protection, and an IR blaster.
The back features a rectangular camera island that almost takes the top half of the phone and houses the three cameras. You get the LED flash and inside is what Infinix calls Active Halo lighting that has multiple light effects for showing notifications, incoming calls, charging, gaming, music, and voice assistant. The light effects range from Lively, Rhythmic, and AI and change from solid colours to RGB.
The back is matte for the Titan Gold version while the Vintage Green version has an eco-leather finish. The latter is much easier to use since it’s non-slip.
The back supports wireless and reverse wireless charging with or without the case included. It’s worth noting that the case has stronger magnets so that it can hold the MagPad and MagPower bank more steadily.
Overall, the design is alluring and gets lots of attention. The curved look of both the front and back makes it easier to use and it’s fairly lightweight making it comfortable to hold and craft around.
PERFORMANCE
At its heart is the Helio G99 Ultimate processor paired with 8GB RAM 8GB virtual RAM and 256GB storage. The phone comes with Android 14 and XOS 14 and Infinix says that they will get two years of Android Upgrades.
XOS 14 packs neat features like the AI wallpaper generator, mobile anti-theft, active Halo lighting, Folax voice assistant, smart panel, game mode, smart hub, magic ring, and more.
The RAM and processor combination makes for fair performance for day-to-day tasks and light multitasking. You’ll experience occasional lag when you start taxing it with heavy multitasking and gaming-intensive apps like PUBG and Call of Duty Mobile – you’ll have to play them under medium graphics settings to smooth gameplay.
Overall performance is solid minus the little stutters and I hope Infinix delivers on its promise of bringing timely updates to the phone especially since it’s in line to get Android 15 and 16.
BATTERY
Note 40 Pro 4G has a 5000mAh battery that supports the new All Round FastCarge 2.0 powered by the in-house-built Cheetah X1 chip that not only supports Low-temp, Smart, and Hyper charging but also the new wireless MagCharge system.
The Cheetah X1 chip incorporates an all-around support module, a high-precision power monitor module, and a safety module.
Charging functions under All-Round FastCharge 2.0:
- Multi-Protocol Fast Charge
- Reverse Charge Mode
- Bypass Charging Mode which means that the power supply goes straight to the phone instead of the battery when plugged in during gaming or video playback to prevent overheating and extend battery lifespan.
- Multi-Speed FastCharge
With its spectacular processing efficiency per unit and intelligent algorithms, the Cheetah X1 processor eliminates the need for translation processes as current flows through the phone enabling the smartphone to offer charging functions beyond standard modes.
The impressive speeds mean the Note 40 series supports 20W Wireless Magcharge supported by the new Infinix MagKit for magnetic charging. The Kit also includes a MagCase for the phone, a MagPower power bank, and a MagPad charging pad.
The Note 40 Pro 4G has a 70W charging brick that juices up the phone to half in twenty-five minutes and to full in under an hour.
The phone has superb battery life as the phone can last you throughout the day even with heavy use. You can also charge your friend’s phone either with reverse wired or wireless charging if their phones support wireless charging as seen in the video embedded above.
The MagPad also supports charging other wireless devices and accessories.
CAMERAS
At the back of the phone, we have a 108MP main camera with OIS, a 2MP depth camera, and a 2MP depth camera. The main camera supports 3X digital zoom. For selfies, the Note 40 Pro 4G features a 32MP front-facing camera. Both main and rear cameras record video at 2K(1440p) 30fps max.
Shooting modes include Short Video, portrait, super night, timelapse, dual video, sky shop, slow motion, super macro, panorama, and wide selfie.
The cameras take some nice shots during the day and at night. The phone made me confident that I’ll get a photo I’m happy with. The 3X zoom is also decent enough. The front-facing camera is solid too when taking selfies even in low light as you’ll see below.
VERDICT
The Note 40 Pro comes with an impressive design, vibrant screen, capable cameras, dependable performance phenomenal battery life, and fast charging. The phone packs some of the best smartphone hardware I’ve used this year and you should consider it if you’re in the market for a new device to upgrade to.
