Apple took to the stage once again to announce and launch some of their new products during their May event dubbed “Let Loose”. This event was headlined by their new iPad line of tablets that will now see some interesting upgrades including the processors and displays.
So here are the devices unveiled:
New iPad Air
The iPad Air, which is the smaller line of Apple’s tablets is set to launch in two sizes; 11 inches and 13 inches. Both variants will be powered by the M2 chip that has been available for MacBooks for about a year now.
This line is set to a few upgrades including the front-facing camera that will now be on the landscape edge. Users will also be able to get the Magic keyboard that the Air tablets are compatible with. For storage, Apple is adding 512GB and 1TB options. The iPad Air supports Wi-Fi 6E, and customers can optionally get a model with 5G support. Both the front and back cameras feature 12MP sensors.
New iPad Pro
Apple’s most expensive line of tablets, the iPad Pro, has also been launched with some big upgrades. Like the Air, the Pro will come in two sizes, 11 inches and 13 inches. According to Apple, this will be its thinnest ever, coming in at 5.1 mm thick.
The new models will now be powered by a new processor, the M4. This will be the first line of Apple’s devices to use it as the latest laptops carry the M3 chipsets.
Apple states that the M4 chip is an “outrageously powerful chip for AI”.
In addition, the iPad Pro tablets will be equipped with new OLED displays designed to give users brighter colours compared to the older models.
The American company also announced a new technology they developed called “tandem OLED” which was used to create the Pro’s screens, which are branded as Ultra Retina XDR.
The iPad Pro comes with a 12MP rear camera that can record 4K video, according to Apple. The company also announced an update to the camera’s flash, designed to make scanning documents easier.
These new tablets are the first new models to be launched since October 2022.
“This is the biggest day for iPad since its introduction,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said.
