Cloud has become the buzzword of late, with very many companies outdoing each other to offer and claim the title of best cloud services. We have seen big companies like Microsoft, Apple, Amazon and most recently Google launch their own version of cloud storage. In the mobiles world we have four of them in this fray, these being Google, Apple, Samsung and LG, each working hard to please their following. Apple with iCloud, Google with Google Drive and the rumour that is sCloud from Samsung, expected to be announced in the May 3rd Samsung Unpacked event in London. Not to be outdone, LG has made an announcement that it will be launching LG Cloud service tomorrow, May 1st in BETA.
The LG Cloud service will be used via all LG smart media, these being Android smartphones, PCs and Smart TVs and wont require the interception of a set-top box. This will be accessible via the LG Cloud app which will be available on Google Play or LG Smartworld on Android devices and LG SmartWorld store for the case of LG Smart TVs and also on the LG Cloud Website www.lgecloud.com for the laptops and PCs. The LG Cloud syncrinisation will be real-time and as soon as you upload a media in one devices it can be accessed by streaming to any other device with access to the cloud storage.. LG Cloud will stream as opposed to downloading, making the viewing of files faster.
Media files wond matter what format you upload them in, as there is Real-time Transcoding technology which will convert any media in realtime to a mode consumable on all devices, no input required from the user, so you wont be requiring any codecs or converters for files. That will be a first globally. 3D devices can shoot videos and as soon as they are on cloud, you can view them on smart TV immediatelty in 3D.
“Most companies today only see the cloud as a storage device or in the case of YouTube or Flickr, only for one type of content,” said LG’s Mr. Kwon. “LG makes the devices that millions of people watch content on so we can set a new yardstick for ease of use by setting up our own cloud service. Tomorrow’s consumers don’t want to go to one cloud for music, another cloud for video, another location for photos and yet another cloud for their office files. In the end, our solution is about making life more convenient.”
This Cloud Service will have both free and paid options, and the same will differ from market to market. Availability be gradual, and countries will get separate announcements as soon as they are covered.
