Huawei and the Independent Development Trust (IDT), the South African development management agency, have partnered on a skills development project that is focused on introducing local ICT students to advanced telecommunications technology.  Through the Huawei Student Abroad Project (HSAP), Huawei and IDT have sponsored 10 top-achievers for an educational trip to visit Huawei Headquarters in Shenzhen, China starting from 09 to 19 July 2011.

During this 10 days visit, these final year university students will interact with their counterparts at Shenzhen University, visit the China Telecoms demo site and the Huawei Learning centre, amongst other things.    The summer telecoms camp vacation will also expose the young South Africans to the Chinese culture as well as the travel heritage sites and other various vibrant city spots.

Chief Operating Officer for Huawei Africa, Mr Peng Song said: “Skills and technology transfer remain at the top of the agenda for Huawei has established a training centre and a Research & Development centre in South Africa to achieve that goal.  I am hopeful that the students will return to the country with a broader understanding of the ICT industry and share that experience with their peers locally”.
