Just slightly over a week after the the undersea fiber cable got repaired from a cut resulting from a ship anchor running over the cable some miles close to the fiber entry, the terrestrial cable has faced another cut, this time at Mazeras. Mazeras is roughly some 20 kilometres off Mombasa on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway. The cable is reportedly out due road maintenance.

Troubleshooting is going on to detect the actual point of the cut, so as to fix the damage, this expected to be done in the next few hours. Nzioka Waita, Safaricom Head of Corporate Affairs tells me that data traffic has been rerouted to other cables, so there shouldnt be cause for worry. Mobile data on Wimax continues to serve mobile users and the strain of the result should not be felt like previously was during the extraterrestrial cables some two weeks ago.
