Google has opened up applications for the 2013 RISE awards. The awards recognize exceptional achievement made in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Computer Science. Through RISE (Roots in Science and Engineering), Google gives grants to organizations workign with primary and secondary schools in Science and Technology around the world. The grants range from $5,000 to $25,000 US.
Among the beneficiaries of RISE for the year 2012 were the Akirachix, a program whose aim is to encourage women to join the technological sphere in Africa and build a formidable force to change the continent’s future. Women who lacked post-secondary education training have since benefited from the efforts of the Akirachix.
The awards are expected to draw participants from 243 countries this year.
Applications close by September 30th, 2012. Winners will be announced in January 2013. Download the application forms here.
