More Leaks: Galaxy S4 Active and Galaxy S4 Zoom Specs Surface [UPDATED]

Galaxy S 4 Active

June 20th is nearing and this is to be expected: devices expected to be launched then leaking left, right and centre. The Galaxy S4 Active and the Galaxy S4 Zoom join their expected “launch mate”, the Galaxy S4 Mini in having all their internals leaked even before D-day.

Here is a quick look at the two devices and their leaked specs:

Galaxy S4 Active

The S4 Active is not new to the tech leaks circus having been leaked just a few weeks ago and the first alleged photos appearing a few days ago so it is treading on somewhat familiar ground. Still, it remains a device of interest. Why? It is simply the Galaxy S4’s less endowed rogue sibling: it is tougher and rugged. It is dust and water resistant too. It has the tough task of unseating the likes of the Xperia Z and the Xperia ZR from their “water and dust resistant” perch whilst maintaining its not-so-macho look which is much better than the Galaxy Xcover 2 that undertook the same tasks although it wasn’t as attractive to the eye.

Galaxy S 4 Active

Here are the S4 Active’s specs:

  • 5” Super AMOLED Full HD display
  • Processor: quad-core Snapdragon 600 CPU accompanied by an Adreno 320 GPU
  • 2GB RAM
  • OS: Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
  • Memory: 16GB internal. Expandable upto 64 GB
  • Wireless: Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, NFC, IR blaster. LTE support
  • Power: 2600 mAh battery

Galaxy S4 Zoom

I’m still testing the camera on the Galaxy S4 and I’m yet to get over the awesomeness that it brings to the table. Be it as it may, it seems there’s a much better experience that Samsung held out just for the Galaxy S4 Zoom. The rage about the S4 Zoom is all about one thing: the camera. The Galaxy S4 Zoom is meant to be a camera phone.

Rumours point out to a 16 megapixel camera with support for 10x optical zoom and 4mm focal length with an 8.8 aperture.

The 10x optical zoom is a big deal. If you remember well the mind blowing 41 megapixel shooter on the Nokia 808 PureView has 3x optical zoom. DxOMark, a French firm that specializes in camera optics and image sensor analysis, recently put the Galaxy S4’s camera head to head with that of the iPhone 5 and the Nokia 808 Pureview. The S4 outshone the iPhone 5 while only falling two percentage points below the 808 Pureview (75 against 77). What am I driving at? If it sounds this good on paper then I can’t wait for the practical tests of the S4 Zoom with all its power (and less pixels) against the 808 Pureview. That alone should point out how powerful the S4 Zoom can become if it lives up to this billing.

While we wait to see how the S4 Zoom’s camera power pans out, here are its leaked specs:

  • Display: 4.3” 540x960px Super AMOLED
  • Processor: 1.6 GHz dual-core CPU
  • OS: Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
  • Memory: 8 GB internal. Expandable
  • Camera: 1.9 front-facing, 16 megapixel main camera with 10x optical zoom
  • Wireless options: Module Bluetooth 4.0LE, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n, A-GPS. No LTE support
  • Power: 1900 mAh battery

Galaxy S 4 Active Aqua Mode

[UPDATE] Sammobile reckons that the Galaxy S 4 Active will come in three colours; Grey, Dive Blue and Orange Flare. They also add that the camera will be 8MP and a 1.9MP front camera. Recently we saw this image up here tweeted by EV Leaks showing the Galaxy s 4 Active with Aqua mode in camera presets options, and the image showing a photo of a girl taken from underwater in a pool.  I just hope Samsung will not put so much emphasis of it’s underwater capabilities like the Xperia Z series. It’s a phone!
