Western Digital customers now have an option of buying the thinnest terabyte drive in existence. Users can now get light notebooks with a storage capacity of 143 GB per millimetre of thickness. At 7 mm the WD Blue drive has 2 platters for 750 GB and 1 TB capacity drives and 1 platter for drives between 250 GB and 500 GB. WD Blue has Stable Trac to stabilize platters for accurate tracking during read/write operations, low power consumption and No Touch ramp load technology to ensure the media is protected from wear since the recording head never touches the disk.
At 5400 rpm, the Blue has a 3 GB/s or 6 GB/s SATA interface. WD has other brands, Green reserved for quieter drives, Black for higher performance platters with Blue being WD’s mainstream brand. WD Blue comes with a 2 year warranty and the WD10SPCXX (1TB model) is currently shipping at $139. For more information, here are the specifications.
