Liquid Telecom has been awarded Best African Wholesale Carrier beating competition from WIOCC, Orange and PCCW Global. The Global Carrier Awards is the biggest event for wholesale telecom providers. Judges at the event recognized Liquid’s efforts to provide fibre access to African countries where infastructure maintenance remains a great challenge.
The acquisition of four companies by Liquid Telecom this year has given the region access to Africa’s largest single fibre network. Internet connectivity in the region is now more reliable since cable cuts are mitigated by Liquid’s diversion of traffic to any one of its several routes from Africa to Egypt and Europe.
The carrier was also rewarded at AfricaCom last week for building the longest fibre links in Africa.
Liquid Telecom’s fibre network runs from the north of Uganda to Cape Town on a single thread. The link spans over 17,000km extending from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, DRC, Lesotho and South Africa. Liquid’s fibre network covers some of Africa’s fastest-growing economies.
