In March, Safaricom introduced a new data bundle offering. The bundles elicited mixed reaction as they instituted validity periods for the data capped at daily, 7 days, 30 days and 90 days. Safaricom also effected changes to the new bundle offerings by reducing the night shift data period from 10pm to 10 am to 10 pm to 6am. Consumers complained they were not able to utilize their bundles fully based on those propositions.
The guys at Waiyaki Way have consulted and racked their brains and decided to effect new changes to its data offering based on the bashing feedback they received. Some of the measures introduced with the new data offering include the suspension of the night shift data bundles as well as re-introduction of the data roll over, which was suspended sometime back.
Previously, any purchase of Safaricom bundles was accompanied by a 100% data increment of the same amount i.e. 50MB data bundles came with 50MB night shift bundles. The suspension which will be effected tonight means consumers will now use the data bundles purchased throughout regardless of the time of day. The suspension of the capping of data bundles has come with a new data bundle offering which also incorporates SMS.
Safaricom has also suspended the expiry of data bundles on condition that the customer buys another bundle before the expiry of the existing data bundles. If a consumer has a 30-day data bundle that is about to expire, purchase of another bundle extends the validity period of the data bundle to that of the newly purchased one. In a case where you have a 90-day data bundle that is about to expire and purchase a 7 day data bundle, it takes the data offering with the longer period.
The new data offerings come with new data bundles which will be available to both prepaid and post pay consumers.
The new changes are as follows:
- 7 MB + 7 SMS for Kshs. 5.00
- 150 MB + 150 SMS for Kshs. 50.00
- 1 GB data for Kshs. 500.00
- 3 GB data for Kshs. 1,000.00
