Number of Devices Running Android Marshmallow Doubles in Latest Platform Distribution Figures

Thanks more and more devices finally get the Android 6.0 update and companies releasing their latest devices running it, Marshmallow now runs on 4.6% of all Android devices, up from 2.3% last month. Samsung, BlackBerry and even regional smartphone brands like Infinix have recently stepped up their efforts to update several of their older devices.

The latest data released by Google shows that the 6-month-old mobile operating system has grown two-fold in the last one month. This has happened at the expense of older versions of Android like Lollipop and KitKat which have seen marginal drops in the last one month. Still, the two account for the lion’s share of devices running Android at 35.8% and 33.4% respectively.

In just a month, Google will unveil a new version of Android at its annual developer conference, Google I/O 2016. The operating system is currently under testing by users and developers as the Android N Preview.
